City council benches were sparsely attended for a Tuesday meeting as officials debated unpaid bills and rising tax delinquency. Mayor Alfred Amon noted improving cherry prospects in Garden Tracts while recounting past weather mishaps, including a near drownings and a windstorm.
An impromptu Kennewick High track team placed seventh in a field of ten at the Ritzville meet. Kennewick finished fourth in the two mile relay, third in the 440 and fourth in the 880. No entries were made in javelin, pole vault, shot put.
Kennewick remains undefeated in Yakima Valley league play after an 8 7 win over Toppenish in a rough game. Hill Hudnall and Clark drove in runs for Kennewick, while Rose and Richardson pitched well for their teams. Kennewick expects to face Pasco Sunday at Pasco Field as they shed errors.
Kiwanis sponsors a Cub Scout group via English Lutheran church quarters and Art Thrasher to lead. Applicants aged 9 to 11 must enroll, paying fifty cents membership to be earned through Kiwanis jobs. Den formation awaits sufficient applications and information is available from Thrasher Visger or Oliver.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Trier plan landscaping of a triangle lot along Columbia Blvd and Ave E by M R Denny of Pasco. A 40 foot pool with a rock wall and rustic bridge will be framed by a sunken garden and rock garden. Trees and shrubs are in place and work began today. The Triers aim to build cottages around the court after landscaping. Ray Kennewick is elected student body president at the high school, with Gene Shanafelt to serve as leader next term.
The 1933 graduating class at the local high school will feature two valedictorians Betty Beamer and Robert Tweedt with a four year average of 97.2 each while Edna Erle Ferrell is salutatorian at 95.3. Commencement and baccalaureate services occur at the Methodist church with addresses, music, and diplomas to be presented. The class has 40 members, motto The Past is Gone Future Ours, and the red tulip as its flower.
Cannery Day at Walla Walla Canning company to open its Sev enth and Rose plant for public viewing Saturday May 6 with tours talks and music. Plant aims to pack 150000 to 200000 cases this year featuring asparagus tomatoes prunes peas and more. Picnic planned by Business and Professional Women's club for May 8 at 6 PM with Leone Sheen Ora Danielson and Louise Rathman as hostesses.

Ray Kelso named inspector at large for district No. 3 joining district No. 1 while Doyle Starcher transfers to lead Wenatchee district. Prosser office retained for records Benton county staff unchanged. Marvin Carnahan to speak at local chamber meeting with slides and short film as daylight saving debate rises.
Twenty one youths from Kennewick Richland and Prosser travel to Yakima to join the Citizens Conservation Corps. They will be supervised by forestry officials and dressed and fed under army arrangements before two weeks of training at Fort Lewis. Meanwhile Mr and Mrs Lyle Hill of Pasadena visit relatives in the area before continuing to Seattle.
Kiwanis club noon meeting featured a detailed Scout Camp explanation and demonstrations by ten youths from local troops. Larry Oliver outlined a new camping site on five acres by the Yakima river, with a bathing beach, a cabin under construction, and plans for a summer start supervised by a trained director.
Mrs. G. Garber funds four new apartments on Columbia Boulevard replacing a fire wreck. Two ground floor units and a rear three room flat will feature living rooms with radio outlets, cellars divided for private basements, built in kitchens, and porches. T. C. Browne handles construction with completion aimed by early summer. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Atell on Saturday April 29.
Taxpayer's Relief committee in Everett leads a petition drive to repeal the Bone Power Bill. They seek 30 000 signatures by May 31 from counties outside King and Pierce to curb Seattle Tacoma taxes. Local groups form in Lewis county under J T Alexander as Snohomish Skagit Whatcom countie s backers push to shield property owners statewide.
Harry A. Linn, horticultural inspector, says calyx spray should be completed in most district orchards by May 8 to predate calyx cup closure. Follow with first cover spray within 10 days, using two pounds lead arsenate per 100 gallons for calyx spray and eight pounds per 100 gallons for cover spray. First moths found in Benton county April 26. emphasize brood control to avoid late July sprays and packing issues.
Kennewick residents visiting the Chicago fair this summer will see four standard boxes of asparagus from Kennewick part of the Washington exhibit in Tacoma. The display, from Washington Early Crops stock, aims to showcase local expertise to an expected audience of millions. George D. Peters, secretary of the local chamber of commerce, arranged the exhibit.
