Kennewick high school baseball began with Coach Boyd Jacobs guiding 15 players through the first turnout. Eight veterans from last season return, including B. Johnson, G. Shanafelt, R. Brown, A. Glassow, L. Brown, Sam Cosslett, R. Herrington, B. Hembree, with Herb Neill the returning ace absent. contenders for pitching include M. Helm N. Cullen and B. Hembree.
A Benton County gasoline shovel used to repair water damage on the Uma tilla highway about 20 miles away was partly destroyed by fire Saturday night. Officials say the fire started when a thief tried to steal gasoline from the machine left by the road crew. An empty container not belonging to the county was found near the scene. Repair is estimated at $200.
