A traditional Fourth of July program for the eastern end includes band concerts, city park picnics, water and land events, a bathing beauty contest with a 5 prize, and evening band concerts and dancing. Events start with a 35 piece White Bluffs band and finish with entertainment at the Bowery and Liberty theatre screenings.
John Lindblad Post No 71 American Legion elected officers for the coming year with Dr. Edwin F Newton named Commander and Richard S Reirson Clarence Goden as vice commanders. Joseph E B Fouty treasurer Winifred F Shaw secretary at arms Dendi Mack chaplain A E Meyers historian Frank Biart Shaun Kelly color bearers. Newton and Fred M Weil chosen delegates with Shaw and George Burford as alternates to the convention.
The marriage of Miss Winifred B Huntington daughter of Mr and Mrs H E B Huntington to Mr Harry L Was took place Wednesday at the Huntington home with Rev J Fletcher Long presiding in the presence of close family. The couple planned a coast trip after the ceremony and will reside in the Bush bungalow on Hartford and Tadu.
A newborn named Marvin Delano Rossi in Richland sent to the White House prompts Roosevelt to send his customary autographed handkerchief. The nation’s president prefixes the gesture to honor namesakes in distant towns.
Kennewick edges Pasco 7 to 4 as John Hoffman relieves Rose in the 8th with three on and two out. Hoffman limits Pasco to three hits while Ellis, Clark, Evett and Simmelink supply key hits. The teams meet again on the Pasco field then finish the half with Wapato and Sunnyside games ahead.
Miss Winona Rushton and Russell Day were married June 20 in St Michaels Cathedral Boise Idaho with Dean Rhea officiating. Mrs Day, a Michigan native and University of Idaho graduate, taught at the local high school. Day, Kennewick High School graduate and longtime E C Smith Motor Company office manager, is son of pioneer residents. They plan to reside in the Carlen house on Kennewick Avenue after July first.
Postmaster G. H. Shanafelt notes that new postage rates effective July 1 affect only letters sent for local delivery. Out of town letters continue at three cents.
A special Fourth of July program at the Liberty theater expands the weekend lineup with Eddie Cantor in The Kid from Spain and a double feature featuring Spencer Tracy and Joan Bennett in Me and My Gal alongside The Vampire Bat. Manager Brannon calls the show a pip. Fay Wray co stars in the adventure. Archie Bartholet notes Mercy chain plans four day weeks and even distribution with Pasco.
County commissioners propose oiling Paterson road and building a new route from Kiowa to The Horn, plus a White Bluffs to county line link toward Yakima. These projects aim to secure the county’s share of a ten million dollar emergency relief fund, with state approval pending. About 175000 dollars in other projects already submitted.
Six traps recorded codling moth catches from June 16 to 27 with counts of 12, 0, 37, 35, 23, 27, 20, 8, 12, 1, 5 and 7. The data reflect enclosure monitoring and seasonal moth activity.
Plans for a three day Fourth of July holiday changed with many stores now set to open Monday before the holiday. Pasco stores will stay closed for the three days. Local conditions made the original plan impractical.
R E Skill announced at a noon club meeting that P P L company offers a large Portland display window to the local Chamber of Commerce free of charge. Kennewick and Pasco may join, with two weeks reserved. displays to be curated by the chamber's advertising committee. The North Bank road project has employed 150 men for about five weeks, aiding local unemployment, and funds for completing the road into Kennewick will be pursued this fall and winter.

The Floriculture club was entertained with a dessert luncheon on Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Bunts.
Local golfers at the golf course report damage to greens cups sweepers and other property. A ten dollar reward is posted for the arrest and conviction of the culprits with the club determined to prosecute.
Five year old George Yoshino son of Mr and Mrs Yoshino Japanese gardeners on the Kennewick Highlands was seriously injured Friday near Kennewick when struck by a car driven by C H Grim of Portland. The boy was unconscious with a broken leg and head injuries and taken to Pasco hospital. Witnesses said he darted from behind a parked car into Grim’s path. Grim swerved and damaged his car. his wife and children were shook but unharmed.
The Courier-Reporter earned the Seattle Times trophy at the Washington Press association meeting in Ellensburg on Saturday, the second time the paper received this award. A desk lamp with an engraved plate replaces last year’s onyx desk set, both on display in the print shop window. The association also honored papers for improvements and great community service, while editors anticipate better business conditions and discuss the National Recovery Act’s impact on the industry.
Carey of Kennewick Bd mund Behrman of Walla Walla and Miss Lucile Greenwood of Pasco were rescued after their motor boat swamped in a whirlpool on the Columbia River Sunday. Paul Schla gel of Pasco saved the victims after they were in the water about ten minutes. Behrman was unconscious on extraction and received first aid. All three suffered only shock with no lasting injuries reported.
Epworth League members stage a successful home talent evening in the Metho dist church basement. The event, directed by Ruth Long and Verdella Mueller, featured a Sunday school orchestra and two one act comedies Eliza Gets Kissed and Modernizing Aunt Minnie. Cast included Marguerite Carpenter Virginia Carpenter Wanda Brown Alice Altrogge Betty Brown Ola Mae Inez Joyce Elliott June Campbell Ruth Swayze Bob Rupp Verne Foraker Amon Mueller John Vibber Don Duffy Robert Williams Bob Love Richard Durdle and more.
Rev Long and his family depart for a new pastorate in Port Townsend after a farewell service at the local Methodist church. Louis Oliver of Los Angeles sang at morning services. A post service gathering followed in the church basement with several dinner events hosted by Mrs. T. W. Payne and the Campbells.
