Irrigation chief W. C. Muldrow announces turning off Columbia Canal water for several days starting Sunday afternoon June 29 to kill moss and water weeds. The plan, costing less than salt or copper sulfate, seeks to reduce annual weed growth and improve deliveries despite hardship to Highlands users.
The Three Rivers Growers shipped the first car of early potatoes from Pasco to Pocatello at 80 dollars per ton f o b shipping point. Market conditions paused digging as Northwest prices restock with California stock, with forecasts to resume near 60 to 65 dollars as Northwest harvest grows.
Miss Gertrude Gage has left applications for the tuberculin test for dairy cows. Barber will visit Benon county the first of July and only applications on file then will be considered. Blanks obtainable at this office or from Miss Gage.
John Maupin and J O Maupin wed Ethelyn Boyd Tuesday at Pasco with Judge John Truax presiding. The bride recently arrived in Kennewick from Pomona California. The groom, manager of the White Bluffs Stage Line, will reside with his wife on North Tacoma Street.
With two games left in the Benton County schedule Richland and Hanford lead tied for first at 600. Kennewick one game back at 500 and Benton City at 300. Kennewick beat Richland 9 runs on 15 hits as Bergh lasted two innings before Yedkca. Hanford defeated Benton City 6 to 3. Penny Ferrell to Pasco July Fourth for two games includes Pasco town team and Pasco league team. Kennewick to add Pasco league players in afternoon lineup.
Mrs Della McGregory arrives as this year’s super intendent and workers prepare the big tent. Crews rope and staff start six am setup for the Sunday afternoon debut. Sales efforts by Business Girls aim to meet season ticket goals to ensure next year’s Chautauqua.
Frank Bens, while fishing near Hover last week, killed a massive rattlesnake measuring 49 inches. The snake lay coiled in a deserted shack when a bullet from a 22 special ended its life, leaving its rattlers wrecked and its exact length uncountable.
A real treat in Kennewick as the White Bluffs band and Up-River boosters perform. Director English praised for building a band that honors White Bluffs and the county, with ex-service men among the players settling at Hanford White Bluffs. The group serenaded Richland and Pasco before a Kennewick concert at Hotel Kennewick park. Mayors and county officials spoke on cooperation and band history. The Highlands club house event raised about 50 dollars for the uniform fund.
The Dubs captained by Bob Mackie meet the Duffers led by Win Gascoigne Sunday at 7 30 in a four ball foursomes match. Handicaps set by the committee apply. scratch players may join. Prizes of three dollars in golf merchandise from Kennewick Hardware and Wibber Gifford Drug will go to the top net scores.
The Methodist Sunday School announces its annual picnic on the F. A. Dunlap lawn Friday. The afternoon focuses on children and mothers with games races and contests including tight rope walking and tug of war. Picnic supper at six thirty and families should bring a well filled lunch basket.
Charles E. Shepard aged 74 died in Kennewick Tuesday at his son George H. Shepard’s home after a period of ill health. Services set for Friday at Mueller parlors. Born in Michigan in 1850, he married Martha Lee in 1873. Survived by wife, seven of their 12 children, 29 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Harold Garrett and Dorcey Miller left Monday for Ione Oregon to work in the harvest fields.

Originating from Pasco Priest Rapids and extended to Benton City Prosser Grandview Sunnyside and Wapato, the co operative signs up growers on an i o b shipping plan with fixed handling charges and uses a large Kennewick cold storage facility under similar terms to Three Rivers and Kennewick Supply & Storage.
Benton county delegates earned multiple honors at the third annual boys and girls club camp held June 16 to 21 at Washington State College in Pullman. Teams on judging and demonstration squads and health exposition placements were announced for youths including John Wooden of Kennewick and Muriel Beal who led earning project work and joined The Daily Owl staff.
The kitty ball season gains momentum with six organized teams and promising rivalry. Kennewick Hardware and Modern Woodmen lead with strong percentages while the Firemen sit at .500. Smith Motors 388 and K P and P P and L have not yet posted wins. Games are scheduled nightly at seven except weekends.
Scott Clarke's Liberty car burst into flames on a valley road Saturday evening. The blaze nearly burned the vehicle to ashes with a muffled explosion heard before flames shot from the pedal vents. Cause unknown.
The State Highway department awarded W. A. Morain the contract to build nine lengths of a mile of highway west from the Fallon bridge over the Yakima. The bid was 6493.68 dollars. Work is slated to start July 5 with completion expected by September 1, eliminating the sharp Barnard corner near Kennewick Irrigation District canal.
