A Finley High School graduate, he is a well known figure in Kennewick. his parents are W H Howard and his wife Ester. Their two children recently moved from Finley to Oakland with Mrs Howard and the children. S Sgt Kenneth H Foraker of West Highlands is reported for duty at Wright Field Dayton Ohio with the 4000th AAF Base Unit Snd TI.
The Courier-Reporter notes a July 2 hearing under army engineers to gauge sentiment on the Foster dam near Brewster. The Foster Creek site, upstream from Brewster, is part of a ten-dam plan including CheLan Rocky Reach Priest Rapids Umatilla John Day and Foster Creek. Foster Creek would be a 500000 kilowatt power project. The Pasco spring hearing on Umatilla is cited as a precedent. The paper also reports the Married Couples dancing club suspends summer dances with the next event planned for September.
Gavin Royal Jones a first class USNR seaman from Kennewick is stationed at a forward Naval air base in the Marianas. He works with modern equipment to service and repair Navy planes, keeping them operational for patrols against Japan. Previously he served at Naval air bases in Washington Kansas and California before overseas deployment.
Lt Kenneth Christensen arrives home Friday June 15 for a thirty day furlough from the 15th Air Force in Italy. He plans to report to Ft Lewis for reassignment after leave and visits his parents in the Garden Tracts.
Marine Private Lyle E Boulange 19 son of Mr and Mrs Norris Boulange Kennewick has graduated from Browning Automatic Rifle school at Camp Pendleton California and awaits further assignment. He joined the Marine Corps January 13 1945 after working for Oregon Shipbuilding Corp prior service.
T/Sgt. Sid Crawford, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Crawford of Pasco, is home on a 30 day furlough. A letter from Sid appeared in the Courier-Reporter two weeks ago and he has brought home pictures of the scenes he described.
Sgt. Hugh Lucke of East Kennewick writes from Germany recounting his Bronze Star Medal citation for heroism on November 16, 1944 near Puffendorf. He and a comrade carried a wounded soldier 1000 yards under heavy fire and returned to fight, preserving his rocket launcher.

About 1 a.m. Sunday on Kennewick avenue west of the bridge a collision between a car driven by Lee Foots and another car from the naval base left the sailor cut to the face and bruised but not badly hurt. Foots and three passengers were tired. an ambulance from the base carried the injured man. The sailor’s car hit a tree head on, while the other car struck a tree at Buy Bend corner. a large crowd gathered at the scene.
