Potatoes Growers Code Divides Districts and Plans Statewide Price

At a Valley club house meeting districts were set for the potato growers code and several district representatives were elected. The code committee urged statewide price control and proposed a forty cent per ton operating surplus to be rebated to growers, calling for all signups and cooperation. A follow up meeting was planned to choose an administrator.

Durdle Burned in Gas Station Blaze

Chet Durdle suffered a badly burned left arm and hand when fumes from spilled gasoline ignited as an oil tanker attempted to unload at the Grange service station on Railroad Street. He rolled on the ground to extinguish the flames, called the fire department, and was treated at a doctor’s office as damages remained minor.

Library Fund Nears Target From Local Drive

About 140 dollars has been donated to the library fund from a recent effort begun a month ago. The Valley Grange sent 18.33 and Washington Hardware Co. gave a dollar. Many still should contribute at least one dollar before year end. the fund remains open and needs support.

Grange Benefit Nets 12.09 for Park Fund

More than 350 attended the Benton Franklin county Pomona grange picnic in Kennewick city park. A basket lunch was served and speakers included R. E. Shea and Mr. Whitehair. East led Connell to a 9-3 win over Benton City, with profits totaling 12.09 donated to the park fund.

Railroad land added to Finley-Hover school district

California Bed Bugs Impress Local Residents Says Dr Kinney

In a Courier window exhibit visitors saw large black widow spiders and half grown Mormon crickets. Dr Kinney, visiting since the Santa Cruz Packing Co crew left for California, mused on a joking claim from Bill Green that locals now believe those bugs are California bed bugs due to California visitors bringing bigger and better specimens.

White Bluffs Boys Band earns second prize at Spokane event

The White Bluffs Boys Band attended the Grand Coulee Dam celebration in Spokane on Monday and won second prize in the band contest. They performed a concert at the stadium, enjoyed a Davenport Hotel banquet, and many local business men joined the trip.

The American Legion Auxiliary presented honors to Camp Fire groups last Thursday evening after a program at the M E church basement.
