War Savings stamp drive set with district committees
The local campaign for War Savings stamps will use a revised plan with minimal personal solicitation. An appeal will be mailed to every head of household by June 28 urging pledges for the year. Benton county’s district quota is $58,000, with committees listed for each area including city, Highlands, Kennewick Valley, Finley, Hover, Berrian, Plymouth, River Road and Horse Heaven.

Cash for Old Tires Boosts Red Cross Funds
The Kennewick Red Cross received an $8.67 check from Pacific Hide & Fur Depot Spokane for old automobile tires and tubes shipped by F. F. Beste of Kennewick Harness. Beste paid shipping and sent gross receipts to the Red Cross. An Inquiry Club boating party entertained their wives Tuesday on an island near the Yakima mouth aboard the Hanford Flyer. The ladies were treated as guests with no chores for the men, lunch prepared by high school girls under Miss Morris, and serving by the men. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Fire Threatens Twin City Bakery Warehouse
A blaze at about five o'clock endangered the Twin City Bakery storehouse and wood pile. Fire crews operated two water streams, and the flames were soon extinguished with minimal damage to the wood pile and building.
