Department of Commerce reports last year’s national income rose 16 percent to 63.9 billion dollars. Disbursements climbed by 7.4 billion with nearly five billion to labor in wages and about 11 billion in dividends.
The Rev. Rerson Jardine of London resigns from his North of England pulpit amid controversy over his stance on the Church of England blessing the marriage of the Duke of Windsor to Wallis Warfield War. He denies any link between his resignation and his views on the marriage.
John L. Lewis leads CIO in attempting to unionize Beem and Youngstown steel, ordering 9 500 miners out in Irania and West Virginia to feed two mills. In Anderson nine non union autos were wounded by shotgun fire. six CIO organizers later arrested. About 10 000 CIO followers mass in Monroe Michigan to close a Republic Steel mill opened by local citizens.
National City Bank of New York and National State Bank of Newark marked 125 years. Lehigh Valley Railroad told 9,000 workers it cannot fund relief and group-insurance plans due to heavy taxes from new acts. A NYSE seat sold for 85 000, the lowest in two years. Socony Vacuum Oil sold 75 million of eighteen year debentures to insurers, largest new financing since 1929.
Paris reports French Treasury balances fell from 160.2 million dollars immediately after a defense loan flotation to 13 million dollars. The Blum government is expected to require nearly a billion dollars in ten loans by year end to cover deficits.
Dr Willy Hoppe, Rector of the University of Berlin, asked a student what he would do if Reichsführer Hitler ordered him to commit a crime. The student replied he would refuse. The rector noted the defiance and the student along with two classmates were expelled from the university.
In Havana, dictator Batista refused landing for 500 Basque children fleeing Spain. He sent candy and toys aboard but refused them permission to disembark, while 30,000 Spanish evacuees were moved to safety.
Ralph Guldahl clinched the National Open on the Oakland Hills course with a record 81. Crowds of about 10 000 watched as he calmly executed the final putt. Rumors circulate that the championship carries about 50 000 in royalties and endorsements.
In Moscow eight Soviet generals were executed by firing squad for plotting with a foreign power. Among the condemned is General Michael N. Tuchachevsky, long blamed as the army’s mastermind. A grim hobby among officers involved in the St. Petersburg Suicide Army Club, where a single chamber revolver ritual led to self inflicted death.
The Seventeenth Annual Field Day will be held at the Irrigation Branch Experiment Station on Friday July 9. Horticultural work will be showcased after Walter J. Clare was named Horticulturist. Visitors can tour the canning and freezing lab and discuss fertilizer needs with researchers from USDA agencies. Field trips start 9 30 a m with noon picnicking facilities and free coffee and iced tea from the Prosser Commercial Club.

In Kennewick, strawberry season ends with about sixty carloads shipped. cherries such as Bing and Tartarian begin commercial picking amid beetle and wireworm losses and limited Royal Ann crops. overall crop prospects improve but cherry yields are reduced by weather and pollination issues.

The Benton Rural Electric Association filed a chattel mortgage for 45000 with future advances up to 500000 claiming security on all property in the county. The loan funds reportedly to be used to construct a distribution power line in the county’s upper region amid earlier plans that only utility bonds would be issued.
Four Camp Fire groups plan a council fire at the M. E. church parlors Friday evening June 17 at 7 o clock. It is the final council fire before next fall's school opening and the public is invited. Members have been canning asparagus for the Washington Children's Home as part of citizenship work. The Hopitu group held a council fire at Mrs. Winifred Campbell's home with games and roasted marshmallows after.
Miss Maurine Vickers of Moscow Idaho married Harry Pearson of Pullman June 13 at the bride’s brother Rev L H Vickers home in La Grande Oregon. The ceremony was before a rose arch. The couple will reside in Moscow after a coast wedding trip.
Mrs. J. R. Ayers Mrs. W. W. Bird and Mrs. R. E. Reed left yesterday morning for Tacoma to attend the Grand Lodge session of the Eastern Star. They will be gone the remainder of the week.
The citizens military training camp invites two more boys aged 17 to 24 from Benton county for a thirty day all expenses paid outing. Interested youths should contact F. H. Lincoln, postmaster, or write Fort George Wright, Washington for information.
Frank Lantz among four youths arrested for robbery in the case pleads guilty and is sentenced to five to twenty years in the state penitentiary at Walla Walla starting today. He married Ethel Funnell this morning, 19, of the Highlands. Don Towns’ trial is set for the next term. Lloyd Coffee and John Campbell remain at liberty on bail. Nelson, the attack victim, recovered. loss totaled 4.90.
Local riders prep for the Fourth of July rodeo by competing in nearby events. Herb Owens, Joe Swantonsky and Warde Larsen won the top three spots at Bickleton. Rock Richmond claimed second and third with Doug Bruce at Union Oregon. Stub Bartholomew of Arlington, last year’s Madison Square bronc winner, also took first on Saturday. A trick riders exhibit and calf roping show are planned as special attractions.
Miss Aileen Mae Taylor wed Cedric M. Allen in Trinity Episcopal church Spokane at 10 this morning. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Taylor, holds a B A in music from Pullman State College. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl P. Allen of Pullman, earned a B A in Architecture from W S C. They plan a honeymoon in the Blue mountains and will reside at 702 Colorado Pullman.
Mr and Mrs Lane K Larson were seen visiting Walla Walla on Sunday as locals noted their appearance. The couple toured downtown landmarks and enjoyed a quiet weekend excursion in the city.
Local interest grows as applications pour in for a parachute jump during the three day Fourth of July celebration. Pilot Ed Crooks will select candidates with a chute, airplane, and chance to thrill local crowds. One girl seeks parental consent while a young man offers a hundred dollars to take the leap.
Five Kennewick graduates were among about 500 at Washington State College’s 41st commencement on June 14. Arlene Taylor earned a B A in music with honors and Delta Delta Delta membership. DeWitt Maguire earned a B A in Education and belonged to Psi Chi, Phi Delta Kappa, and the college band. Gerald Giard received a B S in civil engineering and was in Sigma Chi, Scabbard and Blade, and the Interfraternity Council. Paul Engbretson, with the state welfare board, earned an M A in Sociology after summer study at the college. John Vibber earned a Ph D in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
Miss Zemma Buchanan and Elmer Huppman joined in marriage on Sunday in Clarkston Washington. Rev J S Spangler officiated at a noon ceremony held at his home with only the bride’s sister and brother in law present. The couple will reside in Yakima where Mr Huppman will teach at the junior high after summer studies at Cheney.
A local resident, J. A. Nicholaus, park caretaker, bathed in the canal wearing work clothes and arrived with a lawn mower, ending up in a ditch with the mower and driver. The scene drew consternation and local amusement.
Miss Pauline Struve and Albert Durham united in marriage by Rev. E. C. Beutler at 3 PM in the Baptist church. The bride wore a white crepe gown with veil and orange blossom wreath, carrying rosebuds. she is a local high school graduate class of ’34 and formerly with Neuman's. Reception at the Struve home followed for about 40 guests.
The DeMolay team tops the standings after a narrow loss to the Food Stuffers last week. Current rankings show DeMolay 4 1, Ready Kilowatts 2 2, Food Stuffers 3 3, Democrats 2 3, Autocrats 2 4. Next week’s slate lists DeMolay versus Ready Kilowatts Tuesday Autocrats versus Food Stuffers Wednesday and DeMolay versus Demo Thursday.
The Round Up committee sponsored by the PTA met Wednesday evening to plan the event set for June 29 30 and July 1. It aims to send to schools and kindergartens a class of children as free as possible from remediable defects. The committee will start work Tuesday and will visit homes with children aged four to entering school this fall.
The Huntington home hosted a family reunion with out of town guests including Mr. and Mrs. Louis Huntington and children Robert and Gail. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. James Johnston the Frank Mason family and Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Beamer with their son.
Liberty theatre manager Don Wisger tells Kiwanians that forthcoming pictures will emphasize color and improved sound. He explains that color films will present natural settings with visible lipstick and nail polish, and new sound dispensers will project from various screen points instead of six large horns.
The state highway department plans a cable ferry across the Columbia near Hanford. Approval came from the last legislature under new authority. The War Department will delay permit hearings until a public navigation hearing is held. Two cables will cross the river with 43 feet clearance above the 1894 high water mark.

The event promotes a three day rodeo and Fourth of July festivities with townspeople and visitors urged to dress in period attire from Monday through Friday as merchants report strong interest and early costumes.

DeMolay boys acted as hosts for a dinner at the Masonic hall with fifty to sixty attendees. An engaging program followed featuring a notable talk by M. M. Moulton. After the dinner, officers for the order were installed.
