Bond approval authorizes a Howard Amon construction plan with $2,800,000 allocated for road work and a water system project. Work scheduled within sixty days after validation, with principal and interest terms to be financed over a three to four year period. Local bonds fund the project and approvals outline payment structure and bearing costs.
The federal bureau reports state apple production below last year but above 1820. national crop forecast at 179,810,000 bushels. June 1 condition averaged 72.7, with estimates by Yakima Valley Fruit Growers Association showing Kennewick district at 65 percent. Variety notes include Grimes Golden and Delicious.

Miss Mary Sadie Rauscher dies after eight months illness at the family home in the Garden Tracts. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Tabernacle with burial in River View Heights cemetery. Born November 21, 1885 in Wadena, Minnesota, she moved to Kennewick in 1912 with family and is survived by her mother, three sisters Mrs. Geo Snyder Mrs. Gus Henke Tillie Rauscher, and one brother John Rauscher.
Dr Crosby to leave his Kennewick practice temporarily due to ill health. He began in 1905 as the community’s pioneer physician and surgeon, served as Commercial Club president, and may resume in southern California. Dr McCuskey from West Virginia arrives to take over after Crosby’s departure.
Miss Ruth Toothaker of Hover wed Geo Stevenson of this city in Pasco on Monday June 5. They took a brief honeymoon in Portland and now reside at the Aken residence in Garden Tracts. The bride is daughter of E E and Mrs Toothaker, early Hover settlers. the groom, son of William and Mrs Stevenson, works as driver for the City Dray Line.
Mrs. Argus Hughes of Benton City was seriously cut when a four by four fragment crashed through a store window from a speeding car driven by 16 year old Glenn Nettle. Nettle and Earl Howard are accused of fast driving. Howard is still sought. The incident disrupted ferry service on the Columbia River.
Capt H E Bridge plans voice culture elocution and drama classes in Yakima and Pasco during June July and August. He will hold Kennewick sessions Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at the A W Graham home and will visit Kennewick once weekly after opening his Yakima studio. Bridge trained under Oswald Olsen of Stockholm and Dr Kirkpatrick of Edinburg University after studying at Toronto University.
The home team defeated Sunnyside 5 to 1 as Cook pitched a shutout with eight men in the field. Sunnyside’s only run came on an error by Kennewick’s third baseman Evett. Locals’ hits and strong defense led to the win. a rematch is scheduled for Sunnyside next Sunday.
At the republican state convention in Chehalis Frank R. Jeffrey of this city was unanimously elected permanent state chairman. The gathering endorsed the Smith-McNary bill and sent a special communication to President Harding urging its passage.
Kennewick boosts announce six newborn twins in rapid succession within weeks. Mr. and Mrs. John Kincaid welcomed a boy and girl on May 11. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Safford added twin girls on June 10 and 14. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Peterson welcomed twin boys in June.
About fifty club winners travel with chaperones to Kennewick on Saturday to join a state college trip for excellence in club work. Delegations come from King Grays Harbor Cowlitz Snohomish Lewis Yakima and Kittitas counties and stay at Hotel Kennewick. Early Sunday five local youth join the caravan and continue toward Pullman.
Audie Hem bree Kennewick Earl Weaver Benton City Weldon Galloway Prosser Kathryn Syfford Hanford and Cora Houck White Bluffs will attend the week long course at the state college. Miss Mabel Greene county club leader will accompany them. They travel in two cars driven by Mert Lampson Kennewick and Robert Chalcraft Richland.
The Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation line will add a standard Pullman sleeper to the Yakima valley branch three days a week each way. Sleeper departures to Portland are Tuesday Thursday and Saturday with return trips Monday Wednesday and Friday. The first car leaves Portland next Friday and Yakima the following evening.
The Commercial club of Benton City and Richland organize a car caravan for June 30 leaving at 9 30 am. W O Price chairs the arrangements aiming for 50 cars with a Benton City welcome and a Richland dinner and dance planned for the return.
The Kennewick open air dancing pavilion opens Saturday evening with W. L. Marsh and F. A. Fhierwood hosting. Lincoln's Dance Orchestra provides music. The pavilion floor is renovated and enclosed by a picket fence. Admission is 25 cents.
The Commercial club sets its next regular meeting for Thursday evening June 22 called chicken night. Secretary Crawford invited leading poultry raisers in the district. all interested persons may attend.
At a Monday school board meeting the contract to install a new heating system in the Washington school was awarded to Case Furnace company of Seattle for 1797 dollars. Other bids were Washington Hardware and Furniture company at 1824 dollars and L. H. Raymond.
A Wednesday lawn fete on the high school campus failed to draw a large crowd due to cool weather. An excellent musical program featured local performers Mrs. C. Vhaea, Miss Sty Bann, Mrs. L. F. Capt. H Bridge, Geneva Broughton, and Mrs. Robt. Glen, with the Kennewick Concert Orchestra following the death calls.
The Chautauqua committeemen are ordered to assemble at the Chautauqua grounds next Friday at seven oclock to raise the big tent. The opening program will be presented Friday afternoon.
The Missionary society of the Congregational will host members and friends at the church parlors next Thursday afternoon from 2 30 to 4 30 honoring Mrs D D MacLaurin of Minneapolis visiting with her husband Dr MacLaurin minister of the church. On Sunday morning June 25 at 10 30 the Right Rev Bishop A F Schinner will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to a class of children and adults at St Joseph's church. The Rt Rev will pontificate at the salmon Mass and the rehearsals of the altar-boys and choir promise solemn liturgical setting. Father P Killeen of Pasco will assist.
