State horticulture delegates discussed pest control for fruit trees focusing on heavy moth carryover. Emphasis on pruning to improve spray reach, scraping loose bark, burning waste, and winter disked soil to kill worms, with a call for a community labor program.
Miss Isabell Williams returns to her Spokane work Monday evening after spending the Christmas weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Carl Williams on Hartford Street.
Miss Thelma Amon comes home from Spokane to spend Christmas with her parents Mayor and Mrs A C Amon. She is attending school in Spokane and is advancing in accountancy.
Prof and Mrs E A Holt and Miss Ivah Holt dean of Women’s college Caldwell Idaho left Wednesday evening after spending the Christmas weekend with their son and brother Mr and Dean Holt on First Avenue.
Mr and Mrs C H Eakin and their son Tommy visited relatives in Yakima over Christmas weekend. They stayed with Mr and Mrs Marvin and son Bobby, and planned to return to visit until after the New Year.
Mr and Mrs E A Silliman host Christmas gathering at their Garden L Tracts residence with guests including Mr and Mrs Glenn of Prosser Mr and Mrs J Wit adling Mr and Mrs C C Williams and family and Mr and Mrs C Swayze.
The Bsomic lodge will install officers on January 2 at 8 o'clock. Tiedge of Cheney will serve as the receiving officer. All masons are requested to be present. Invitations have been extended to nearby lodges and a large number of visitors is expected.
Members of the Christian group are holding a dinner on December 30 to raise funds for the Old Folks Christian Home in Walla. A hungry crowd will be served with fare priced at a set charge and the dinner will run through an evening hour.
Prof and Mrs F F Nalder of W 8 were in Kennewick early this week to learn about the old academy that operated here about thirty years ago. They talked with M O Klitten who started the institution to obtain firsthand information from early files and local papers.
The Walla Walla cannery, started experimentally last season, seeks chamber approval to explain plans at a general meeting in January. Further meeting details will be announced once finalized.

The second annual meeting of the fertilizer council and technical committee convened in Yakima at the Chamber of Commerce to review statewide fertilizer tests and draft crop specific recommendations. Attendees included county figures H P Singleton and E C Durdle with industry, extension, and experiment station representatives. A final recommendations document was promised to growers soon.
A. F. Brownell will retire January 1 as Union Pacific agent at Kennewick after 31 years in continuous service. His career began as a cashier in La Grande Oregon in 1902 and included postings at Oaksdale Farmington Garfield Pullman Cheney and Kennewick. His successor will be H. S. Taylor of Cheney. Brownell plans winter travel in California and a visit to his son F. L. in Lake Charles Louisiana. He was guest of honor at a Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Miss Ruth Long hosted a Tuesday dinner party at the parsonage with covers laid for Ruth and Verdella Mueller Ola Mae Elliott Glee Miller Ruth Long Boyd and Warde Rupp Warde Meyer Floyd Hutchins Robert Campbell and Rev and Mrs F J Long. The table featured a holly centerpiece and red candlelight with place cards reflecting each guest’s name.
The Pink and Green club reschedules its meeting to January 12 at the home of Mrs. J. E. Mulkey where Mrs. Maupin will entertain. The session will include the election of officers and all members are urged to attend.
Mayor Alfred Amon says Pacific Power and Light costs to the city are hard to reduce under current terms. He notes the street lighting rate is low but the fire hydrant charge extends 41 years. Residential lights, about 18 dollars per year each, could save roughly a thousand dollars monthly with enough public support.
Pasco Club members held a joint meeting on Tuesday due to the holiday. The event celebrated the birthdays of J. K. Bockius M. M. Moulton and Herman Schmidt with a birthday cake as a centerpiece. Officials to be installed next Tuesday evening with ladies attending.
The marriage of Miss La Anderson at Woodland to Mr Everett Terril of Yakima on Christmas day at the bride's home has been received. Mr Terril is the son of Mr and Mrs H B Terril, a local high school graduate and student of W.S.C. Mrs Terril's home is in Woodland. She taught at Wailla Walla before going to Woodland.
Miss Elsie Turner left Sunday evening for Nelson British Columbia to visit relatives and friends for a week.
Local business houses and the post office will observe a two day vacation on Monday January 2 due to two Sundays this week and last. Merchants plan inventory while Kit reports strong red ink business this week.
Early Christmas morning staff battled smoke filled rooms to rescue three patients including M. E. McIntorf who were moved to other hospitals with no serious illness. Owners estimate eight thousand dollars loss, mostly uninsured. belongings of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. McClendon and Miss Gladys Sellick ruined as interior and equipment destroyed after three hours of fighting.
Miss Josephine Bell left Friday for her home in Waitsburg after a several day stay as a guest at the W. H. Whittemore residence.
Swift & Company produce plant in Kennewick distributed about $125000 during the year just ending. About 600 people benefited from the operation including farmers selling butterfat eggs and poultry and local residents employed or paying taxes in the city. The plant’s presence boosted local trade by handling farmers’ products and feeding spending to merchants.
Favorable weather allows county work on the S P and S railroad crossing at Finley, moving about 4000 yards of dirt. The crossing near Bowles corner has had several accidents and is deemed one of the county’s most dangerous intersections, with work scheduled to grant nearby ranchers opportunities for time.
M. C. Maguire entertained relatives on Christmas Day as his children visited for the holidays. The gathering included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Camp among others.
C. L. Holcomb will leave for Olympia after the first of the year to join the general's office. He will assist the legislature in preparing bills and examining the constitutionality of various legal matters during the session.
Benton County commissioners cut three precincts at the next election. East end precinct boundaries altered. Richland and Lower Yakima consolidated into a single Richland precinct. Horn Rapids and Vale merged as Horn Rapids. Horse Heaven joined Highlands under Highlands name. Benton City area south of the railroad annexed to Kiowa. Valley and South precinct lines adjusted to remove a jog.
Miss Marie Spiegelberg hosted a group of former Business and Professional club members at her Highlands home for a 1 pm luncheon. The event honored Miss Florence Oliver of Los Angeles and Mrs Lulu Reese Foster of Hood River, guests for Christmas holidays. Eight covers were set, with attendees including Miss Hawkins and several Mrs. and Miss Spiegelberg’s guests. The afternoon featured card playing after the meal.
Lorraine Engels, who traveled from Traverse City Michigan, visits his parents Mr and Mrs O W Er in East Kennewick. He is recovering from a severe bout of typhoid fever contracted last fall in Michigan laboratory research work and will remain at home for several months to recuperate.
Kennewick market offers frozen asparagus from local grower J. W. Atterberry stored at Church's Grape Juice company. Five boxes were set aside last spring as trial. housewives tested it and found no difference from fresh garden asparagus. Green appearance, plump stocks, and potential for electric refrigeration appeal noted.
Kenneth Serier a University of Washington student and head of the Serier family along with his parents Mr and Mrs I Serier visit relatives for the holidays. The Serier family join Christmas dinner hosts Mr and Mrs John Ferguson the Ferg uson family member being a Serier daughter. Dick Ferguson of Potlatch Idaho is visiting his brother over the Christmas vacation.
Althea Rebekah group met at the Moose hall to arrange taking Miss Kah and Mr Oddfel low to Grandview lodge on January 8. All Egg Rebekahs urged to attend with a bus departure at 6:30. Round fare listed as Deuehie ton ete.
A discussion led by M. Howard and Mr. Cook of Alaskan Products Co explores establishing a Kennewick cannery. Howard reports may involve a NYC retailer contract to buy canned goods, warehouse delivery, and local financing, with joint ownership after completion. A decision is expected in an afternoon meeting.
Rev F L Oliver will speak at the Pasco Tabernacle on Fifth and Clark streets Sunday at 7 p m on Will Jesus Return to Palestine. Special music will accompany the sermon and meetings continue through the week except Saturday and Monday nights.
The annual meeting of the Congregational church will be held on Monday evening, January 2 in the church parlors. Dinner will be served at 6 30 p.m. All members and all persons affiliated with the church are invited. Please bring sandwiches and one other dish.
Dr and Mrs Paul O Stone hosted a Wednesday seven o clock dinner party with a cleverly appointed table decked with flags and carnations. After dinner the entertainment included three games of 8 78 play won by Mrs fried and Charles L Powel while consolation went to M M Moulton.
Mr and Mrs Clark Mauk travel from Wenatchee with daughter Janice and Mrs Shanafelt to spend Christmas with the Shanafelt and Reed families. They say about a foot of snow fell in Wenatchee causing business to halt.
Officers of the lodge were installed with Mrs. Jennie Chellis as installing officer and Mrs. Tella Winkenwerder acting marshal. Nina Hulet named Worthy Matron but illness kept her away. R. Q. Macmahon installed as Worthy Patron and Pearl Wysong as Associate Patron.
