After the annual Three Fivers cooperative meeting members met December 18 in a special session to discuss strawberry packing rules. The group voted to leave the matter with the cooperative board of directors and recommend keeping rules the same regarding Clark Seedlings, while changes elsewhere remain under board control.
A. A. Anderson concludes six weeks visiting prospects east of the Mississippi, returning via Texas and southern California. He reports the local grape juice outlook is normal and that the factory can start operations in the new year with production slightly higher than last year.
Forty camp members attended with ten Gas City school students presenting a Christmas program at the school house. A community dinner followed as residents described Gas City as a growing town within the Kennewick gas workers’ area.
A 20 voice Methodist Choir will perform the cantata Out of the East at the church on Sunday evening December 29. Walter Stauffacher directs and is the pianist. The chorus includes solo, duet and quartet numbers from choir members.
The Christmas cheer committee of civic clubs prepared baskets for the unfortunates with help from Kennewick Flour Mill donations of flour sacks Dale Smiths apples and Neumans Store price reductions on groceries for the baskets.
A group discussion shows mixed views on female presidential prospects. Warnde Johnson notes prejudice favors men and doubts gender equality will arrive soon. Bea Shere and Gus Neuman doubt it within lifetimes. Nell O’Leary asks why not, while predicting change may take many years.
Richland swept both games on Friday night as the Richland boys pulled away in the second half to a 25-15 victory while the Richland girls triumphed 54-33. Kennewick led briefly early before Richland’s quick offense and accuracy sealed the wins. The Kennewick girls face a tougher pace this season to compete with the faster Richland squad.
A miniature rotary drill rig sits in the Mutual Hardware window under A V McReynolds and Alex Bier. The model, powered by electric motor, mirrors a real Walla Walla Gas and Oil lease rig with a hydraulic mud pump and multiple bits. A gauge will record daily feet drilled as the scene includes sagebrush scraps and a nearby Ferrell Transfer display.
Spokane business groups urge moving the time meridian to Mountain Time to place Spokane and Inland Empire under Mountain rather than Pacific time. The senior class selects Friend Hannah as the January 28 theatre production. Set in George III era, the plot follows George Prince of Wales and quaker heroine Hannah with conflicts resolved. Miss Winona Rushton coaches. Cast includes Margaret Witt and Harold Nelson among others.
Mr and Mrs D J Beinhart hosted a Christmas dinner for Mr and Mrs Orin Beinhart and daughter and Mr and Mrs Reese Brunton and two children of Pasco.
Emma Mills known as Grandma Mills dies at Nazarene hospital in Nampa Idaho on December 20 after a long illness. Her sons Charles and William were present. Services set for Friday at 2:30 pm at the Nazarene church in Kennewick with Rev E H Edwards officiating. Born in England she was 76 and had lived in Hover for 42 years. Survived by sons Charles William of Hover and Bert of Spokane and 16 grandchildren.

Kennewick fruit growers three seasons ahead of tests in spray control practices according to W S Green who cites Prof Anthony Spuler's report. The new system replaces old lead arsenate regimes with timed applications covering three to four sprays using oil medium and lead plus oil-nicotine sulphate, yielding cleaner fruit and better worm control at higher cost but greater labor savings.
Bell advertising by the Liberty Theatre aims to draw crowds for a New Year’s Eve Midnight Frolic. Manager Coday and staff plan ten vaudeville acts featuring Kennewick talent with band music song dance and humorous skits plus a fast comedy film. A large crowd is expected for the first stunt night.
J H Siegfried spoke at the Kiwanis noon meeting about his country upbringing and being skilled on the mouth organ. Members received gifts to share with needy children on Christmas day and the program featured Mrs A M Chellis and Billy Burris with a highway patrolman giving a talk.
Firefighters battled a Wednesday evening blaze at Pat Murphy’s residence. The quick response kept the flames from engulfing the house though water caused some damage. Investigators suspect the fire began from a faulty flue.
Dr and Mrs M O Barnes are guests this week of Mr and Mrs George Byrd. The note mentions hospitality and social hosting in a local community context.
Washington state reports 2,300,000 cases of eggs produced in 1928 exceeding prior years. Poultry numbers rose from 3,178,000 hens in 1919 to 6,750,000 in 1928, with egg values reaching 24 million dollars and total poultry output placing fifth in state agriculture at about 28.38 million.
The Agricultural Appropriations Committee, after completing hearings with the Department of Agriculture and hearing from many witnesses, will soon present its bill. Led by Congressman John Summers, the panel backs about 163 million dollars for farming, forestry, roads, and conservation, with emphasis on Washington’s agricultural activities.
M. H. Church, 72, Kennewick pioneer and founder of Church Manufacturing, died after a long illness at his Yakima home Sunday. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:30, with pallbearers from former Church Manufacturing employees. Survived by wife and four daughters, his business created Kennewick’s grape juice industry with national distribution.
Funeral services for the baby daughter of Mr and Mrs C E Warter were held Tuesday morning at 10 o clock. The child three months old died Sunday morning after an operation in Spokane for double mastoid. The infant had undergone three operations, one requiring an airplane in the emergency.
