Kennewick community embraces a modest Christmas with church programs and services across denominations. Special dates include Midnight Mass at St. Josephs and morning services at 11 a.m. with Wise Men theme. UW Glee Club to perform December 29 with 26 members, jazz band, and vaudeville acts during a nine-city tour.
A Friday 7 30 p m First M E church program features a long list of recitations songs and a Christmas cantata Lady Beatrice Sherk pianist and R H Briggs director, with students from several classes performing. Bethlehem Lutheran Church also hosts a Friday 7 30 p m service with children presenting the Christmas story and music including Mozart Glorious and Gounod Sanctus performed by Marie Spiegleberg soprano under Rev H C Messerli.
The Christian Church E P Mitchell invites all to White Gifts for the King's birthday Friday at 7 30 p m at the Princess expected gifts include white envelopes money or useful articles for the needy wrapped in white a surprise Christmas program will follow The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth at St Paul s Episcopal Church offers two Christmas services midnight vigil and 9 00 a m with a full choir and traditional carols including Hark the Herald Angels Sing Holy Night and O Little Town of Bethlehem Sunday December 26 Holy Communion at 8 00 a m and Morning Prayer at 11 00 a m with the choir repeating Christmas music attended by the Masonic Lodge.
The Baptist Sunday school holds a Christmas program Thursday evening with entertainment by children, a Christmas tree, and a traditional treat at the church.
Elizabeth Owen and O D Enger wed at the Owen home with Rev. A B Hotchkiss officiating. The ceremony featured a white bell arch and a pink Ophelia rose bouquet. The couple planned a Spokane honeymoon after a birthday wedding day. Also, Elizabeth Martin and Elmer Olson married at the M E parsonage, then departed by night train for a honeymoon, to settle on Olson’s River Road farm. Burdette Hoadley and Howard Door married at the Hoadley home with a Spokane honeymoon to follow.
The local bridge fund aims to raise 40 000 with 25 000 subscribed at noon and pledges flowing from Benton county communities. Grandview reports 3 500, Pasco neighbors top at 63 500, and Walla Walla pledges a share. Kennewick and Richland canvasses push ahead after holidays to Hanford and White Bluffs.
The 1921 Washington apple grade and pack rules largely mirror 1919 with a key change restoring the Jonathan to striped red. Extra fancy will be 66 2-3 percent, fancy 25 percent. unclassified grade eliminated and C-grade restrictions loosened. Wenatchee delegation carried the three grade pack plan at Spokane while Yakima favored two. H. W. Desgranges and J. W. Vickers represented the district.
W L Nettleship of Seattle has been appointed manager of the Kennewick Co operative Creamery succeeding W S Mansfield. He brings extensive creamery dairy experience and was endorsed by state dairy inspector O C Van Houten. He plans campaigns to restore farmer confidence, improve cream tests, and market quality cream from White Bluffs to Benton county.
Work to rebuild the Bulgin Lewis tabernacle begins this week on Second Street north of the M E church. The smaller structure will serve the church congregation already outgrowing the old building and be available for public use when not needed by the church. Rev J E Strevey says the new tabernacle will provide needed space and will meet current needs.
Rural carriers will be at the post office Thursday and Friday afternoons to hand out mail. Patrons on rural routes urged to call for mail to speed package delivery.
Housewives filled bathtubs and containers last Saturday but the P P L company did not cut power or water. City water remains on and hydrant changes cause connections to be postponed until next spring in the warehouse district.
The Kennewick post office posted its largest stamp sale day on Tuesday as Christmas package postage drove high demand. Postmaster Averill Beavers noted higher receipts and that staff did most of the licking due to the surge in stamps.
