Richland churches and local groups plan a community celebration centering on a living Christmas tree in the grassy square near the hotel. The event features a 100 seat stage and a festive program leading to Christmas Day services.

Funeral held at Mueller chapel with Masonic lodge and River View Cemetery. born in Rich Hill Missouri and married Edna Rossweg. Survived by wife two children grandson and relatives. local officials and residents comment on his years of service.
A two day meeting of the district Farm Labor board in Spokane discussed next year's labor outlook with County Agent Walter Click and emergency farm labor supervisor C. E. Ridley in attendance. Officials cautioned that securing Mexican workers remains the main unknown affecting future operations at the Kennewick labor camp, weather conditions could also influence needs, and if Mexicans are unavailable, other sources including prisoners of war and school labor would be explored alongside training for workers. A local growers meeting is set for January 8.
A teen-age group is formed at the Housing Project with elected officers and active committees. They plan open house parties for all ages, operate a canteen by membership card, and hold regular dances under USO director Miss Frances Crowley who recently arrived from New York.
Rainbow Girls of Kennewick and Pasco engage in charity events with a majority service at the Masonic hall and a hospital gifts program. Members Marcia Edsel, Virginia Edsel, Betty Michaels, Evelyn Dahlman, Norma Browning, Virginia Browning, and Norma Liston received degrees. Christmas party earlier featured gifts for members and hospital boys to be distributed Christmas Eve.
Nancy Julia Chalmers of Grantham England to marry Cpl Alvin Richard McCamish of Kennewick. Chalmers is a Grantham Institute graduate and railways secretary in London. McCamish is a Kennewick High and Kinman College graduate now a teletype operator with a 313th troop carrier squadron. Wedding set for December 30 1944 at St Walthams church Grantham.
Kennewick's fire zone limits more than double after a Tuesday night vote to include areas north of the NP tracks between Benton and Gum streets and a half block along First Avenue. The ordinance bars new commercial buildings unless fireproof and does not change spacing rules for single dwellings.
The Kennewick city council voted to purchase meters and sign the contract. Meters will install along the main drag from Washington to Dayton and side streets to alleys, with extra free parking spaces nearby. Meter readiness is expected in about four months, offering 12 minutes per penny and longer increments for more coins.
Sst. Harrold W. Ham of Kennewick led rocket-firing Thunderbolts against German tanks pillboxes and supply trains. He helped install rocket equipment on the first P-47 fighters to carry the weapon. Ham, an aircraft mechanic in a top British air depot, hails from Mr. and Mrs. John Ham of Kennewick.
Six men from Benton County are inducted with one from Kennewick among them. Nathan P. Burrows was certified to the army on December 12 by the local selective service board. Loii S. Wilson of Benton City joined the navy, and three men from Prosser were drafted into the army.
Kennewick votes will be organized into seven precincts after council action prompted by county requests and a county committee recommendation. The first ward splits into two units, second into three, and third into two, with each precinct hosting a public building as a voting place except in the third ward.
The local Toastmasters club meeting at the Arrow Grill on Wednesdays voted to join the national organization. Gus Parker, manager of the Walla Walla cannery, gave the principal address and the extemporaneous talks were well received. The club will skip its regular meeting during the holiday week.

Benton county exceeded its Sixth War Loan target thanks to war workers, but the nearby city remains about three fourths of its quota. Assistant chairman D. M. Deeter cites the major shortfall in E bonds sales and notes Kennewick area had a $400,000 target including E bonds. early-year sales counted toward the local goal.
Kennewick's new hospital seeks donor pledges, noting tax deductibility. Campaign urges payment before year end to qualify for deductions. pledge cards are at Harold G Fyfe Agency with receipts on payment. New pledges are welcome as the campaign battles to reach $35,000 required locally to start construction.
Richland government employee group votes officers led by P A Wells as president. Castle Club hosts Richland Village Players party for The Male Animal cast and committee. Red Cross Benton chapter plans hospital performance with McCaw General Hospital patients on Sunday at 6 p.m. Open house Dec 25 and a Dec 23 dance are planned with Al Jervis leading the dance committee.
Albert Linn age 89 died at noon Thursday December 21 after a short illness. born in Browns ville Pa he moved to Kennewick in 1917 and lived on a farm east of town. Survived by widow two daughters Mrs Emma Johns Mrs Julia Pearson of Kennewick Mrs Clara Pierson of Hood River Ore two sons Harry of Kennewick and Rev John A of Portland. Funeral services set for Saturday at 2 30 pm in Mueller chapel.
