Benton County residents raised 654.14 during the 1938 Christmas seal sale. Five percent goes to the National Association for research and consultants. 95 percent stays in Washington state. About two thirds remains with the Benton County League treasury. the rest funds state association programs and county services.
The Kennewick Lions drop a 29 33 decision to Toppenish as only six of twenty long shots connected. Toppenish used two squads with the second unit pulling ahead by halftime. Lions aim to rebound Wednesday night in Prosser for their third league game.
Nearly one hundred Pasco and Kennewick P P and L workers and their wives attended a turkey dinner at the Highlands Clubhouse. George Bragg of Portland, VP and general manager, gave the main address after a program featuring Walt Johnson, Victor Adkins, Anna Marie Mueller, and Hazel Long with Mary Halvorson as accompanist. Yakima employees C L Jackiette and Guy Davis also attended.
Mr and Mrs Don Thompson and daughter Donna of Walla Walla visited Kennewick on Saturday.
Christmas decorations brighten the residence district with colored flood lights at the C S Knowles home and luminous candles atop a Hinckley desert scene. Outdoor lighted trees adorn J H Siegfried Miller and Spaulding homes, while shops display window trees and the Power Company features elaborate outdoor lights.
Christmas Cheer committee plans to deliver toys and baskets to about 150 youngsters and some elderly residents. Mrs. Harry Linn reports generous donations this year and notes volunteers prepared varied toys, pop corn, and crafts for the deliveries on Christmas Eve.
Kennewick Junior High remains undefeated by beating Toppenish Junior High last Friday night in Toppenish. Frosh score 18 to 5 and eighth grade 21 to 15 with notable action including an injury to Billy Kirk and a third quarter surge by Nort Mile's reserves before the starters finished strong.

A church program lists sections of songs recitations and exercises for children and adults including scripture reading and prayers led by Rev Croft Betty McIntyre and Charles Parks with performances like Singing for Jesus We Have Hearts and Softly Sleep Little Babe. It notes events 6 30 B Y P A 7 30 church service in Judson Hall Wallula midweek service and a Sunday Christmas program with violin solo and choir and references continued on page four.
The schedule lists a December 22 pageant and party at St Pauls Church Pasco led by Rev Frederick A Schilling with a 6 30 pm start. December 24 features church school at 9 00 am and a 10 00 am Christmas Service with meditation and a choral Eucharist followed by a 11 00 pm Midnight Service at the Church of Our Savior Pasco open to the public.
On the fourth Sunday in Advent which falls on Christmas Eve the regular morning schedule will be kept with Sunday School at 10 15 and Divine services to follow.
Manager Howard McGhee announces Kennewick on Parade will screen at the Roxy for three days during New Year’s period alongside the regular program. The film features Kennewick streets and institutions and is supported by about a dozen local business houses.
The Schubert Club held its annual Christmas concert at M. E. church raising close to 30 for the Seattle Orthopedic Hospital. The program featured new and old Yuletide carols and anthems with a plan to stage a light opera in the future.
Kiwanians collected gifts given to members and then auctioned them off. J. H. Hughes presided at the toy sale while members bid spirits rising, paying about a dollar per item. The event followed a gift exchange among adult and younger members.
The Kennewick Camp Fire girls will participate in a Christmas Council Fire on Wednesday evening December 27 at 8 o'clock in the M. E. church parlors. Several girls will be awarded ranks and special honors during the ceremony. Parents and friends are urged to attend to learn about the group's work.
A large fire leveled the Pasco hotel corner and Pence hotel in Pasco, with adjacent businesses including the telephone central, a real estate office, doctors' offices and an electrical supply salesroom damaged. About 15000 residents watched as firemen battled the blaze. losses estimated at 150000 to 175000 dollars, insured only partially.
River View School announces the first Hover Finley River View Alumni dinner and dance set for Saturday evening. The event features a 6 o’clock dinner and 9 o’clock dance at Finley Grange Hall, with Kek's Orchestra of Pasco providing music. An estimated sixty graduates are expected, and some invites may have been missed due to missing addresses.
The P T A held its regular meeting at the high school last Thursday evening with Christmas carols sung by four boys, resumes from the study club, and a talk on The Real Joys of Christmas by Dr. R L LaMott. The high school mixed glee club performed under Miss Esther LaMontagne and refreshments followed in the cafeteria. Residents in the southeast town area asked the city council for street work once crushed gravel is available to start.
