Lt. and Mrs. Lowell Higley and son Wayne arrived Friday for a visit with Floyd and Mrs. Higley. Higley recently returned from eight months in the China Burma India theater with the Army Airways Communications System. He earned a Bronze Star for the central Burma campaign and his AACS unit was cited for meritous service.
The Richland Y area near Kennewick undergoes many changes including a modern tavern built for S. D. Wheeler with Ray Hall as general contractor and Superior Electric for power. A new 1000 square foot house, Island View Paint remodels, and Richey’s Cafe opening add activity as Jack the Chef oversees pots and pans in a cafe open from 11 am to 3 am.
Francis V. Thiel in the Pacific sends a Christmas carol style poem to the Courier-Reporter. The verse laments long service and delays returning home, noting troops oversea awaiting ships while home front readers are invited to decide how much longer they stay.
