The Benton County Pomona Grange meeting at Whitstraw December 8 1928 urged strict enforcement of laws governing sale and transport of cull apples and asked legislators to pass additional laws to curb the practice. The session included committee reports on memberships gatherings and plans for a state grange meeting band travel and annual events.

City Council Certifies Ballot Count After Adjoined Meeting
City council met at city hall to canvass the election ballots. The official count matched the prior unofficial tally published last week. Routine bills were approved.
Crossings to Be Paved by N. P. Railroad
The crossings on Benton and Washington streets will be paved soon by the Northern Pacific. Pre cast concrete planks will be installed with the paving. Construction starts after planks arrive and weather allows. One thousand one hundred thirty one straight cars of Kenne t. Of this number 967 cars contained fresh produce, 152 hay grain flour and feed and 12 grape juice. Last year only 199 straight of produce were shipped again, with 967 this year. Drowning of Wolfin and Tiny Wilson in Slough
Wolfin seven and Tiny Wilson five, children of Mr and Mrs Clyde Wilson of Plymouth, drowned on a frozen slough of the Columbia River Sunday. They had attended Sunday school in Umatilla and were playing near the ferry landing when found upright under the ice. The tam o shanter of the girl was recovered floating on the water.

Young Ladies Solidity Reorganizes with Nine New Members
A Sunday reception at the Catholic church welcomed the re organized Young Ladies Solidity club with nine new members. Rev. James Borgan S J of Gonzaga University Spokane delivered the sermon, assisted by Rev. John Campion of Pasco and Rev. J J Callanan of the local parish. Music and hymns honored the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The benediction of the Blessed Sacrament closed the service. Club officers named are Gladys Speigle perfect Margaret Hawkins treasurer and Leona Olbrich secretary.

Dr Cole and Aubrey Kirby were travel partners going goose hunting when the automobile caught fire on Horse Heaven road about six o'clock Sunday morning. The fire started through the carburetor and they could not stop it. only the metal frame remained.

Morton's Home Robbed During Church Services
Rev. F. N. Morton's home next to the First Methodist church was entered during Sunday services and $20.50 stolen, $18.00 to be mailed. The rear door used by the Mortons for churchgoing was found locked on return, suggesting familiarity by the thief. Mr Morton offers a Bible as a reward if returned.

Influenza Outbreak Reported in Local Valley

The Yakima Fruit Growers association held its annual district meeting at the Commercial club rooms. President H P James paid tribute to John J Rudkin for founding and guiding the cooperative, noting his role as trustee and advocate for marketing cooperatives. The group reported 800 new members and sales near 6300 in 1998, with 18 plants at full capacity and over 2 000 000 boxes of apples packed.
