Dr Frederick P Keppel president of the Carnegie Corporation says the United States has more colleges than it can afford and predicts a general weeding out will leave only the fittest surviving. He cites an expenditure of 4 692 682 dollars on educational institutions.
Greek forces report capturing large stocks of war material including tanks and arms as Italian troops flee Argyrokastron in Southwestern Albania. Porto Edda remains under Greek control as Italian forces retreat northward.
The Tuscaloosa anchors near Fort de France with President Roosevelt aboard for a Caribbean cruise and talks with U S officials and naval observers. The French carrier Bearn is also in port amid airlift of 100 American planes blocked by the Vichy government.

The Yakima Red Cross unit met at Mrs. H. A. Linn's home with 21 members. A shipment of fifteen children's dresses and fifteen bed jackets is prepared for donation. P. F. C. Rodney L. Sams returns to California after a 30 day visit with his parents Mr and Mrs D A Sams. He is stationed at Hamilton Field California in the 77th Pursuit Squadron. Sams recently graduated from the air corps technical school at Chanute Field Illinois where he studied radio operation and repairing.
J. H. Siegfried completes a business trip in Portland, Astoria, and Bend and plans to return home Friday.
The Parent Teachers Association held its regular December meeting in the high school auditorium. The Lyric club directed by Mrs Ed Neuman sang three numbers Welcome Spring Moonlight Sonata and O Holy Night. Ed Neuman accompanied at the piano. A basketball game with the House of David team is set for January 8 in the high school gym.
The Kennewick Junior High honor roll for the second six weeks includes thirty five names, one more than the first six weeks. Seventh Grade lists Blackman Gragg Green Gobel Hacker Long Michener Miller Peterson Rutherford Taylor. Eighth Grade lists Anderson Dickinson Duffy Elder Higley Rauth Keene Lewis Moteki Pace Silliman Watkins. Ninth Grade lists Aman Alexander Riegel Friday Garber Hays Harryman Raymond Reese Simson Sonnenburg Whitney.
