The Women’s Club asks for the return of volumes belonging to the Commercial Club Tooms. The four short story volumes were collected for the Monroe Reformatory and should be sent this week. They request immediate return to the Commercial Club rooms.
On December 9 the Business and Professional Women's club held a dinner at Plowman cafe with Mrs. Jennie Plowman in charge. Miss Alice Braker reviewed county health work, Bertha Fricke reported on Wenatchee district conference, and funds from the Bridge benefit were given to the library. Presidents and officers will attend the community chest drive, and the annual Christmas party is set for December 16 at Mrs. MacMahon's home with a Santa visit.
Miss Opal Jenkin returned from Chicago where she joined four state chaperons guiding 4-H boys and girls to the International Livestock Exposition. The group toured the city visiting the Field Museum Planitarium and Board of Trade and attended a banquet at the Stevens Hotel. Iris Hughes of Hover was the district representative, closest in Yakima.
A man living in a concealed cave east of Lewiston was identified as Marvin K. Parks, 34, formerly of Kennewick where he worked as a carpenter for 19 years. Sheriff Dent and deputies found him after smoke from a pipe exposed the hidden shelter.
The Business Girls will run the Christmas Cheer drive for the needy with help from several organizations. They urge everyone to help and ask that you report any children not on Santa's calling list to Miss Mavis or the office with name address number sex and ages so Santa can find them.
Soviet army test pilot Vladimir Kokinacki claims a world airplane altitude record of 47 806 feet during a flight over a Moscow military field. The previous mark of 47 385 feet was held by Italian Renato Donati.
The Schubert Club with the Pasco Kennewick orchestra performs a Christmas concert next Wednesday at 8 in the Methodist church to raise funds for Benton County children needing medical care. Dr Spaulding notes five or six more children require Orthopedic Hospital treatment next year. donations sustain the hospital’s charitable work. A silver offering at the door supports the Orthopedic benefit.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hanna of Walla Walla sue Benton county for 1614 in superior court claiming negligence for failing to place a warning sign or guard rail beside an open pit two miles east of Kennewick. Their car hit the pit January 9 1935. The petition cites 1500 for pain suffering and loss of time plus 100 for car repairs 2.75 hospital bill and 11 50 doctor bill.
Friends of Dr and Mrs Frank M Crosby invite Kathleen Crosby to wed Richard Montgomery Tullar on Tuesday January 7 at West Hollywood Presbyterian Church Hollywood. Crosby family were long time Kennewick physicians and Cal ornia residents for twelve years. Dr A G Tullar was also a former Kennewick resident, Richard class of 28.
The Benton County Tuberculosis League expresses gratitude at its fall meeting to the Women's Clubs Bus Clubs Commercial Clubs Kiwanis Clubs Rotary Clubs and individuals for their time energy and support to the Christmas Seal Sales. The league praises the effort to make the seal sale a success each year.
Ole Brue was elected to the Columbia Irrigation district board over C. E. Duffy. F. R. Gragg won in the Kennewick district against E. C. Tweet by a small margin, with the largest vote total to date. The bond election passed by a narrow 25 vote margin.
The Prosser Commercial club, via George O. Beardsley and the planning council, pushed oiling the 30 mile Paterson road between Prosser and the Columbia river as a main project for Benton County. A permanent committee was formed to pursue funds and liaison with the highway department while WPA aid and signage improvements were discussed. A cannery in Prosser was also considered. Kennewick fans rally as ten teams form a city league for basketball. Doubleheaders start tonight with Christian Baptist vs Brick's and Professionals vs Faculty, then Mondays and Thursdays feature matches including Methodist Nazarene Highland Grange Locust Grove and many more through February.

Frank B. Mason reports progress in winter maintenance of the Columbia Irrigation District canal system. The main project shapes and lines about two and a quarter miles of dirt canal on Lateral No Three with gravel lining, plus 450 feet of concrete side lining ten miles above Kennewick, aimed at reducing seepage and break risk.
Judge Timothy A. Paul in Benton County Superior Court allows a public utility district tax in addition to the 40 mill limit. Commissioners must certify the district budget of 2500 and spread 0.3 mill over the county tax roll, despite objections from Jay Perry, chairman of the county board. The county previously did not levy the utility under the 40 mill limit law.
Enrollment for the CCC will occur in January with the first two weeks set for sign ups. Eligible boys aged 17 to 28 from relief families should contact the State Department of Public Welfare in Prosser by December 17. Kennewick residents may register at the welfare station on December 17.
Benton County tax collections for the first 11 months reached 883 686 14 dollars, up 127 818 05 from 1934. Deputy treasurer Ray Gilcrest reported November receipts totaling 136 216 94 with the year’s breakdown including real estate irrigation personal and miscellaneous taxes.

A ladies’ charity match between the towns is planned for later in the week at Gene's.
About 100 members of the Ben feature of which was a dramatization of the story by Raymond Mc Donald Olden entitled Why the Chimes Rang by the high school girls' club. This dramatization will be repeated Sunday evening at 7 30 at the M B church.
