The Kennewick Business and Professional Women’s Club collects gifts for women in state mental homes for Christmas. Acceptable items include costume jewelry, toiletries, scarves, purses, and vases. no sharp items. Wrap gifts beautifully and tag with recipient name, deadline December 17.
Kiwanis members hailed the Kennewick High School Mixed Chorus after a Tuesday noon preview performance directed by Miss Marguerite Hansen with Robert Huntsley on piano. Betty Jean Wilson earned a standout solo as the chorus impressed Kiwanis with its maturity. The concert is set for Thursday, December 18, in the High School auditorium. Auction proceeds supported Seattle Orthopedic Hospital. next auction date is Tuesday. Kiwanis Board meeting moved to Monday, December 22, with all members urged to attend.
A Methodist church announces a Christmas program to be held Wednesday December 1 at 2 00. Parish members and attendees are invited to join in the service and related activities at the church.
River Road area residents and Richland Y are told a contract post office may open at the Y to ease Kennewick congestion. The Courier Reporter announces a new in-house paper service for Hillside Trailer Court and Richland Y coverage with local merchants and residents backing expanded news reach.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Hoadley quietly marked their sixtieth wedding anniversary at the Garber home on Newport street. The couple married December 4, 1887 in Spencer Indiana and arrived in Kennewick in 1902, returning in 1905 to develop their property. Eighteen guests attended including relatives from Seattle Spokane and Prosser. The husband has long been a weekly paper subscriber since 1905 to the Columbia Courier and Kennewick Courier-Reporter lineage.
The Kennewick kindergarten seeks used toys for needy students. Superintendent Mrs. Minnie Bird urges parents to donate items their children no longer use. Deliver toys to the grade school building. the Pre-School Mothers Club provides a new doll and buggy for Christmas.
The Kennewick Chamber of Commerce invites River Road and Richland Y area business men to join. The group aims to help the region grow as a unit to serve the expanding population. Letters have been sent and personal contacts planned. Frank Harris and Frank Hicks are volunteering.
Local business figures including Lorraine Heath Jen Elliston Mildred Pickles Dave Piccoli and others express support for a new paper to be added to regular store sales. Beginning with the next issue the publication will carry more River Road news and be sold in business houses and major trailer courts.
Christian youth groups from many denominations in the valley gather at 7 30 p m Saturday in the Kennewick Methodist Church for a large rally hosted by the Mid-Columbia Christian Youth Council The program includes reports from four delegates who attended the Oslo world Christian conference last summer with slides from Europe Dr Edward Bonsall Jr Youth Director of the State Council of Churches accompanies the group and participates The four delegates are Bob Kraft Marie Gilstrap Tom A Smith and Ernest Rueter The Mid-Columbia Youth Council president Thur Whitson and other officers invite all area youths to attend citing this as one of the valley s outstanding meetings
A community campaign in Seattle seeks 10,000 food and clothing items for a Christmas Ship to Europe. Rev. J N Tinsley leads the local committee with Mayor Pratt and others. collection policies to be set at a Friday meeting at Arrow Grill. Donations due by December 6 with weekly updates to Box 1900 Seattle Star.
Kennewick High presents a Christmas program in the high school auditorium next Thursday December 18. The program features carols Christmas music a six tableau depiction of a Christmas story and an elaborate cathedral setting by Hi Y decorating. Miss Hansen directs the music with assistance from the drama department. The public is invited with no admission.
N D MacDonald of Seattle firm Nettleton BaldWIn Anderson Inc disclosed plans for 250 new homes in Kennewick south of the school and rodeo grounds. The project, covering about 60 acres, includes two and three bedroom houses selling from 7500 dollars with 10 percent down, offering rent or sale. Construction to begin by March 1, with completion hoped for by fall, pending FHA reviews and public‑spirited support from local officials.
Gragg the incumbent won 91 votes against Hendy Mohr who tallied 61. The district’s 152 total ballots marked, with seven votes earlier, reflected a quiet election year compared with past tallies. John H. Smith ran unopposed for another term on the Columbia Irrigation panel.
The Parcel Post substation in Richmond will open Friday unless mail volume requires earlier service. The main post office will be open Sunday 1 to 6 pm and the substation hours are 10 am to 8 pm starting Monday. Post officials urge using the substation for packages, mailing early, and calling promptly for arrived parcels.
