High School Students Collect Crops Data For War Effort
The Senior Ten class is gathering farm production data for the state department of agriculture to aid wartime food production. Principal M S Lewis explains the survey covers hay and potatoes, sows kept, unused lands to be cropped, and next year’s acreage of wheat, rye, peas, beans, potatoes and other cereals. Local Navy League Ceases Activities At War Relief
The Navy League in this locality ends its activities and donates finished knitted garments to the Red Cross for distribution to enlisted Navy personnel. Prompted by a Navy directive, relief supplies must go through the Red Cross, turning many leagues into Red Cross units while local members may still pursue individual war relief efforts.

Mr Maupin says all Marblehead crew from Benton county have finished training and are now qualified seamen. About 60 sailors were granted furloughs before heading east, with Harold Taylor the sole Benton county member hoping for the next furlough allotment.

Navy recruiters W. G. Wilson and O. J. Bacon are in the city on advance duty ahead of a recruiting party December 17 to 20. They seek fit men ages 18 to 25 for immediate enlistment. after December 15 no registered men can enlist in any branch. Navy needs 2,000 firemen by December 15, 4,000 apprentice seamen, and 2,000 aviators by February.

City Offices Move to Eakin Building on Second Street
The city offices relocate to the Eakin building on Second Street after a move completed this week. The council met Tuesday in the new quarters with routine business. The library will share space once changes are finished and the west half is in use. Central fire and police stations will move to the east half when L H Raymond's lease ends.

Harry Maupin recently finished U S S Marblehead training and on 15 day furlough. He thanks Red Cross and Navy League workers for knitted gear sent to sailors on a southern cruise along the South American coast. He recalls 250 sailors, 200 sets, and 50 lacking. He stresses letters from home lift spirits, sharing a tale of an orphaned sailor who benefited from a letter from Kennewick. Kennewick voters elected M H Church as Port of Kennewick commissioner, retaining him with all but five votes.

Copeland Boy Shotself in Duck Hunt Near Depot
Vinton Copeland son of Police Chief Copeland was hurt when a double barrel shotgun discharged as it fell from his hands while hunting near the S. P. & S. depot. A portion of the shot struck his leg. Merton Stroman aided him to T. Carmen’s home for medical attention. An x-ray will determine injury severity.

War Thrift and War Savings stamps are on sale at the post office and local banks. Thrift stamps cost 25 cents each and savings stamps are 4.12 dollars, redeemable for 5 dollars on January 1, 1923, yielding 4 percent interest. A sixteen square card accompanies thrift stamps. once full, a savings stamp is issued for an extra few cents. The amount increases monthly at 4 percent, with sales running for one year. Suitable for children's or small savings accounts.
