Public debt and treasury figures summarize the condition of the Treasury for the last fiscal week. Receipts total 43,132,287 while expenditures reach 119,305,099, yielding a year deficit of 1,229,919,464 and a balance of 1,422,261,468 against a public debt of 33,798,210,341.
The State Department said thirteen foreign governments must pay war debts and interest totaling 1,315,052,424 by December 15. France and Italy were reported to be negotiating renewed payments on a modified basis. Investments by foreign capital in the United States reached 2,281,659,000 in the 21 months to September 30. Public Works Administrator Ickes announced grants and loans totaling 13,555,644 for 12 projects in 37 states.
Five Black Legion members face life terms under state law after being convicted of murdering Silas Coleman. Nine others already began life sentences for the killing of Charles Poole, a PWA worker, last May.
The New York Central signal tower was used as a blind two years ago, leading to a fatal shooting among duck hunters. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the victim’s widow, awarding $60,000 against the railroad company.

She warned tuberculosis remains a major local problem though deaths decline with prevention education funded by seals. She urged people to buy and use seals to protect themselves and neighbors.
Five elections will be held next Tuesday across the community including irrigation and city races. In Columbia district director Henry Piert retires. Harry Hampton and Ed Frauen compete for votes in the lower valley. Highlands Kennewick district seeks reelection for M N Hudnall with broad support. Drainage district seats likely go unchallenged. City polling sites remain at three usual locations and Kennewick district votes at the club house.
Twelve Home Demonstration Clubs in Benton County plan December activities on gift wrapping and table arrangements. A Christmas display will run December 21 to 24 at the county extension office in the Chamber of Commerce building in Kennewick featuring new paper prints and Christmas seals to inspire homemakers.
Miss Leone Skeen departed earlier this week for Seattle to enter a medical clinic for treatment.
The Mary Grail a 60 foot twin screw diesel tug built for Kirk Thompson of Spokane and designed by H C Hanson was launched in Seattle to haul petroleum products up the Columbia River to Wallula Two 55000 gallon tanks were built near Wallula as Thompson plans to expand with two more 100000 gallon barges He predicts the venture may revive river transport on the Columbia backed by Inland Empire Waterways Association support and government river development aims
Dr. F B Joy of Seattle led a pediatric health clinic at the high school with Dr. Fabian Smith from the state health department overseeing the oral hygiene section. The program included a posture film, a dental hygiene talk, and tuberculosis, diphtheria, and rickets visuals.
The Misses Mary and Martha Lincoln and Margaret Brown returned to Walla Walla Sunday to resume their studies at St Vincent's Academy.
Real estate activity surges in Kennewick with about 200 acres changing hands in the past month. Purchases include Willsey House by Jay O’Keefe, Capell house by Dr. Capell, and 10 to 30 acre parcels owned by McKinley Desgranges, G A Morrison, Wm Moore, Horace Wray, Harley Peter, and others.
Universal Bible Sunday will be observed by Kennewick churches next Sunday December 6. The evening service at 7 30 will be in the Baptist church with slides showing the Bible’s progress from early copies to today and how Bibles are printed for the blind. Slides come from the American Bible Society.
The Order of Rainbow for Girls holds its regular meeting Saturday evening December 5. A banquet at the Arrow Grill gram will follow at the Masonic Hall. All Masons and Eastern Stars are invited to attend.
Dr. P O Stone officially accepted the presidency of the Kennewick chamber of commerce at noon succeeding R E Reed who served in that capacity for the past year. Other new officers began their terms of office this week.
J. Dennis Healey and Townsend Speakers will give Gi Widen at the Raat Le Theran church on Monday December 14 at 7 30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The Northern Pacific railway unveils a new train schedule taking effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday December 6. Westbound trains No 1 at 12:48 a.m. No 3 at 9:30 p.m. No 5 at 11:59 a.m. Eastbound trains No 2 at 3:54 a.m. No 4 at 4:14 p.m. No 6 at 2:40 a.m.
A 20 piece string orchestra from Kennewick and Pasco will accompany the Schubert Club Christmas concert at the Methodist church on December 16. Rehearsals began last week and director Mrs. Alice Siegfried says practice is going well. A dress rehearsal will be filmed by local home movie enthusiasts using new lighting to capture the group in action and soloists.

The event included letters to players and a Kiwanis cup transfer from Pasco to Kennewick after the tussle between the two towns.
