Voters face a September 11 election on authorizing a new school building. After prior rejections, a revised plan uses a state grant with the district covering about half the cost. The bonds would be repaid from the existing ten mill levy without extra levies, with the state carrying interest at four percent.
Warehouse one on the track is leased to Jas A Madsen a Couer d Alene box maker. He has contracts to supply 15 000 canta loupe crates to Madton 30 000 apple boxes to White Bluffs and 40 000 cabbage crates this winter to local growers and will use the warehouse as a base for shipments.
The Kiwanis club met Tuesday noon for a program titled Looking at the Future through the Past arranged by A H Wegner and E C Smith. It featured views of Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford monument to early American life and industry. Members found the program very interesting and enjoyed it.
City council expressed support for the city owning its water system though no sale price yet from the power company. Condemnation was discussed as a possible route if purchase fails, marking the first step toward either purchase or construction. Also noted is a mastectomy operation for Jimmy Donahue, son of Councilman Crawford Donahue, at St Mary’s hospital.
On Friday August 23 Pasco and Kennewick youth meet at the new Pasco baseball field for a community field day starting at 1 PM. Events include cross country run, old clothes race, sack race, girls and boys kittyball, girls relay, three legged race, and a cricket exhibit, plus handicraft displays and an attendance prize. Admission is free.
Mayor Alfred Amon will give a personal view of his municipality to a Seattle radio station as part of a mythical tour of Washington towns. The program will describe local institutions including Dixie Taylor and precede an air minstrel show.
Frank Dunlap Archie Dunlap and Johnny Thrasher chased a 40 pound salmon nearly 49 inches long after a long fishing session. Frank stunned the fish with a rock then wrestled it in water, aided by his brothers and Thrasher before neighbors helped transport the catch home.
Mr and Mrs Robert Farnsworth and their son Billy left Monday for Okanagan after visiting Mrs Farnsworths parents Mr and Mrs H E Huntington in town Mr Farnsworth has attended summer school at the University of Washington and will teach in Okanagan next year Mrs Viola Kopriva mother of Mr Farnsworth accompanied them and returned to Centralia Monday morning
About 900 Boy Scouts from the West toured the East inflating chatter with thank you and please while guiding locals. The trip, in place of the canceled National Scout Jamboree, included Radio City, the Erie Canal, Empire State Building, Harlem, West Point, Sing Sing, a Giants game, and a Coney Island outing featuring Kennewick duo Lowell Higley and Wayne Smalley.
The fourth annual Benton Franklin county WCTU convention met in Kennewick for an all day session. Mrs. W H Hunter of Prosser was elected president. other officers include T W Payne as vice president Alma Wilder as secretary and Mary Wehe as treasurer. Delegates from Prosser Benton City Connell Pasco and Kennewick attended.
Mrs A V McReynolds came back from a two month visit with friends and relatives in Mason City Iowa Platteville and Mosine Wis Chicago Milwaukee and Fort Huron Mich She spent about five weeks with her sister Mrs Bert Howard at Fort Huron and praised traveling in air conditioned trains.
Miss Vina Terril daughter of Mr and Mrs H B Terril and Mr Kenneth Hudson son of Mr and Mrs A Hudson of Pasco were married by Rev L E Obert at the Terril home. The front lawn ceremony occurred at eight Sunday morning with Nova Terril as brides maid and Howard McGee as best man. Out of town relatives came from Lewiston Vancouver Beebe Yakima Pasco and more. The couple plan a two week coast trip then reside on Yakima Street in Pasco.
Miss Marian Adams of Wisconsin and Mr Sam Schuster of East Kennewick wed at the Schuster home Thursday at eight o'clock. Rev Elmer Beuttler officiated with Mrs Lloyd Adams and Bob Schuster as attendants. Out of town guests included Mrs Lloyd Adams and Mr Spec Schuster. The couple left for Portland to establish their home.
Miss Edna McCamish daughter of Mr and Mrs A R McCamish wed Eddie Johnson of Spokane at Couer d Alene Sunday. The bride a local high school graduate class of 33 and has worked at Plowman's cafe. Johnson works for Consolidated Freight Lines and they will live in Spokane.
In the Courier window a windmill is shown as a farmer friendly power aid. Washington Hardware exhibits a new Zen iths radio designed for areas without electric service. The device charges from a single battery, with the windmill used to generate power for charging.
Dr and Mrs M O Barnes and their daughter from Yakima are visiting for six months and will reside with Mrs Barnes's parents Mr and Mrs Geo Byrd during the stay.
The fair board discussed replacing the traditional fair with a downtown carnival this fall due to poor crop quality and limited funds. Officials propose a no admission street program focusing on amusement while leaving open the possibility of reviving the fair next year if conditions improve.
Miss June Skinner, only local Camp Fire Girl to attend Camp Sweyolaken on Lake Coeur d Alene, reports an active week with 113 enrollees during Miners Week. She earned leather honors Pollywog and Quiet Tent, four honor heads, and passed the beginners life saving test.
Roy C. Irvine of Ritzville travels through Kennewick en route to Salem to visit his mother. He recently sold the Ritzville Times Journal, the paper he published for years, and will devote himself to cinema after buying a Ritzville theater. He notes the newspaper grind offers little pay compared to the theater venture.
Local scouts Alvin McCamish Austin Anderson Jimmy Thrasher Ralph Howland and leader Vane Wilder traveled by train last week then hiked to Sacajewea park for an overnight stay. They spent Saturday taking tests with three boys earning first class in cooking and swimming and Alvin McCamish passing second class in cooking fire building and a 14 mile hike.
Miss Anna Gilbert leaves for Spokane after visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Guy Gilbert for two weeks, ending a short family stay.
About thirty athletic enthusiasts plan a banquet at Gene's next Monday to honor the two new high school athletic directors and Supt. E. S. Black. The group aims to foster sportsmanship and support students who lack size or speed to make the first team.
Announcement today states Clay Puderbaugh will assume management of the Washington Early Crops for the interim period until the annual election of officers early next year. The note promises changes in methods and an expected outstanding season for the company.

Mr and Mrs E D Walker of Seattle stay with Walker’s brother R E Reed as Jim English the wife’s brother joins the visit during a short stay at their residence.
Mrs. Klitten urges farmers to plant spinach seed immediately for canning at the local cannery amid several inquiries about the process.
Friday August 16 saw two Kennewick couples celebrate half a century of marriage. The Walker and Smith families hosted dinners and gatherings, with children and grandchildren attending as both couples reflect long lives in the area.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watts of East Kennewick marked their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary on Sunday August 18 with a picnic at Sacajawea park. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Watts and family Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Watts and Fouts Mrs. Lois Campbell and her small daughter and B. F. Pathea of Richland.

W. H. Hulet and family traveled to Pendleton to bring back Fred Brown of Detroit who visited on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs. Hulet, a former chief clerk, renewed an old acquaintance with Brown, who works as a bank examiner.
