About 170 4H club members and leaders attended an all day picnic in Prosser park on Friday July 31. Representatives came from nearly all county clubs as Miss Elsa Brogunier oversaw activities. After a long lunch the group enjoyed swimming and games with Kiwanis support and songs throughout the day.

A F Brown was guest of honor at the Kiwanis club meeting as he marks 25 years as manager of the Kennewick Valley Telephone system. Under his leadership the exchange expanded from a small switchboard to a modern network serving from Richland to Hover. He bought the system in 1906 from R A Kling, beginning with a battery crank line on Front Street.

At a Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Kennewick a plan to store first grade and blemished fruits vegetables and potatoes from local farms for winter distribution to indigent families was proposed. A committee of local groups would oversee actions with funding largely donated. Michiganers Plan First Annual Picnic at City Park
Michiganers will hold their first annual picnic at the city park on Sunday August 23. Fourteen families have registered with Mrs. Carpenter, sponsoring Michigan natives in new western homes to meet. Millage for Schools Cut Materially
Superintendent Warren C Hodge announced that the local schools will open August 31 and millage will be cut about half. Over $39,000 is pruned from the operating budget with no millage for building bond retirement. District No 17 remains under state operating expense averages despite bond retirements and potential savings from eliminating the Smith Hughes agricultural course and free bus and text books.

Bus Lines Decline to Build Terminal in Kennewick Pasco

Man Killed and Wife Injured in White Bluffs Car Crash
Loyal Borden of White Bluffs died in a wreck on the White Bluffs Yakima highway when his car hit a truck on a curved bridge over a canal. His wife was severely injured and taken to Pasco hospital. truck driver was William Kirby, a White Bluffs drayman. Borden, about 35, had lived in White Bluffs all his life and was Irving Wrights nephew.

Fifteen Rattlesnake Reported Near Hover
