Wilson Daughter Weds Sayre in Quiet White House Ceremony
Jessie Woodrow Wilson became wife of Francis Bowes Sayre at 4:30 PM in the East Room with Rev. Sylvester Beach officiating. The affair was simple, guests limited to about 400, maid of honor Miss Margaret Woodrow Wilson, and best man Dr. Wilfred Grenfell accompanied the bride and groom. The gown was ivory satin, flowers and chrysanthemum decor dominated, and a 135 pound wedding cake fed 2000 guests. After the ceremony the couple left for a honeymoon visiting Miss Nevin in Windsor Forge and will reside in Williams town after January 1 while Sayre joins Williams College president Harry A. Garfield’s staff. The event marks the thirteenth White House wedding.
