At Salt Creek dance hall on a Saturday night a quarrel between Shorty Russell and Jobe Gant led to Gant firing three shots, wounding Russell in the shoulder and abdomen. Gant fled with a horse and has not been located. both men are described as around 22 and 27 years old.
