Court action seeks state funds for county school districts
Directors of Laramie county school district No. 2 filed in Cheyenne district court to compel the county to levy a general tax that would fund $200 per teacher for six months of service. If successful, about $12,000 more would flow to the district and others in similar need may follow. The suit challenges the county’s refusal to grant rural schools $500 without six months average attendance of six pupils. Deputy Attorney General O Leary says rural schools are to be considered grade schools under the statute.
