State Game Warden D C Newlin reports elk herds near Wyoming ranchlands fed with hay saved about 2000 animals from starvation. Ranchers scattered hay on snow, elk eagerly consumed it and began following feeders, prolonging the big game’s existence in a sparsely explored region.
H. T. Kubota of Oakley reports that Oakley Japanese residents have applied to organize the Japanese Social Club in Kemmerer. The group will be incorporated under Wyoming law as a fraternal and beneficiary organization to aid Japanese in the state, the first of its kind in Wyoming.
The board notes major changes in livestock valuations including horses mules and cattle, with many classes nearly doubled. Officials plan summer sessions to value coal mines and railroads, marking a key showdown between the taxation board and railroad representatives over proper railroad appraisal.
Knute Joman of Olson and Fremont county road supervisor left for Rock Springs on Sunday after stopping in town Saturday night on business. A long-time resident, he ranches in the Eastfork Flat area and recently acquired the Fred Morris Hitch property, seeing a bright future for the basin.
