Unique Strike Dues to New Lamp Change in Colorado Mines
In Rockvale and Coal Creek mines of Colorado Fuel & Iron 600 workers oppose replacing open flame head lamps with electric lamps. State coal inspectors ordered the change to reduce explosion risk though the mines were not in a gassy district. Government Lost Again in Midway Field Case
Commissioner Tallman ruled against the government over dummy claimants in the Hawk placer claim of 100 acres in Kern County. L. B. McMurty used eight named associates to locate over 1 000 acres of land and paid them $500 each. McMurty sold large tracts to a consortium for 8 000 000, while government effort to contest failed to prove fraud or misrepresentation. The Longmont affair shows continued contest losses by the government in land disputes.
