Women of Lincoln County to Register for War Service

The State Council for National Defense ordered a statewide women registration for food administration and war service on July 17. Each precinct appoints a registrar and every woman must register at her polling place for two blanks one pledging to Hoover and one for war service. Lists of voters per precinct will be provided by the County Clerk and cross checked with registered names.

Doctor DiGiacomo Charged With Manslaughter in Diamondville Case

Dr F DiGiacomo a Kemmerer physician was arrested by the sheriff and arraigned before Justice McDonald on a charge of manslaughter. He pled not guilty and a preliminary hearing set for July 21 in a tragedy at the Inglese home where a mother died after childbirth two hours earlier amid alleged professional neglect. The case draws local interest as investigations questioned care given to the patient.

Celebration Highlights at Kemmerer Camp Event

A modest Kemmerer celebration featured a drill exhibition by Company H on the Triangle, a grand parade, and student flag displays provided by the Chamber of Commerce. County Attorney Roxe and Captain Waugh spoke, followed by an afternoon sham battle and a Oakley defeating Company H in a ball game.

Dance and Beach Gathering Draws Local and Evanston Attendees

Last Saturday Kemmerer residents joined an equal number from Evanston and Montpelier at Meal Beach for a social evening. A regular orchestra dance is planned for Saturdays with nightly free dances in the pavilion on other days. Swimming in the lake remains excellent through late August amidst warm days and cool moonlit nights.

Government Health Officers Visit Kemmerer for Public Health Survey

United States Public Health Service officers K B Wynne and W Stromquist visit Kemmerer for at least four days to survey Wyoming health conditions. The effort aims to report county findings and propose sanitation improvements to cut disease, notably typhoid fever, in line with a national health program. A public lecture Thursday in the Pleiniet Court Room will discuss typhoid causes and prevention.

Long Standing Quarrel Ends in Fatal Elk County Shooting

Richard Thornton known as Dismal Dick was shot and killed by William Stilson at the Stilson ranch near Elk on Tuesday. The tragedy ends a long feud that included Thornton’s past arrest for illegal deer killing and repeated confrontations over a half mile fence line between adjacent ranches. Stilson had warned Thornton and sought to move the fence to gain a road, but Thornton refused.
