Reports recount a dramatic train holdup with Charley Manning shot in the chest and a second suspect wounded as deputies pursued two other men. Clarence Stoner, a Cokeville youth, was wounded and captured after identification errors and rumor link him to the bandits. Bert Dalton is serving time for a related murder in Rawlins. Authorities question the involvement of Hugh Whitney and other locals amid claims Manning carried Whitney watches and ties to prior crimes. The incident, described as one of the boldest in years, involved passengers targeted for valuables while train staff were held at gunpoint.
