Mine Explosion at Kemmerer Coal Camp Claims Several

A major blast at No 4 mine of the Kemmerer Coal Company on Saturday afternoon trapped workers and triggered a rapid rescue. Mine foreman Arthur Robinson and others led a surface and underground effort that saved many, with all injured and dead removed within three hours. Investigators found no clear cause, with theories ranging from a shot detonation to possible carelessness, while noting robust concrete construction limited dust and preserved mine fixtures for potential return to work.
