Reports from Big Piney and Green River valley indicate heavy snow and storms easing, aiding stock, with roads between Palisade and Cottonwood open by wheels for 60 miles. Local merchants note many new residents, planned seedings, and large segregation proposals as frost ends and spring work begins.
Reports from Big Piney indicate about two head of cattle drowned in the Green river near the Ames Smith bridge last week. A small herd had been turned out in Green breaks to feed and be easily gathered if a storm came, and several went through the ice and perished.
County Commissioners plan retrenchment likely at January meeting cutting salaries of deputies in Cumberland Diamondville and Sublet reducing revenue from saloons. Supervisors fear safety risks as patrols disperse across distant towns making oversight harder.

Cumberland deputy sheriff Al Morton arrived Thursday after Dave Johnson faced assault charges from a village clash at Chas Beynon camp. Beynon suffered a broken arm, Johnson fled upon learning of a warrant, and Marshal Naylin detained him in Kemmerer awaiting Morton’s arrival.
In Kemmerer, Peanuts St Clair defeated Soulsby in eight and a half rounds at the opera house. Referee C J Husted ruled the bout a knockout as Soulsby fought on groggy with bloodied cuts. The card featured Billy Davis versus Coke Lafferty as a lively preliminary.
