Wyoming legislative clash over the Lincoln county bill ended 42 to 12 in favor after A. D. Hoskins and Cranny led a stubborn coalition. Byron dissented and Cranny argued the bill’s merits, while Hart and Eyron faced opposition from many counties. The Senate backed the final passage with 21 to 4 votes.
A large crowd joined a campaign to secure a division for Uinta County. Those who rode a special Kemmerer train to Granger to connect with a U P train included J P Rosenberg Col a8 John Mischler Frank unter Salmon Peter Gor on Jr Dre W A and St A Hocker with Brig Smith. The Loys aided supporters against long odds.
Rev. J. Q. Wells of Memphis arrived in Kemmerer Saturday to oil the pulpit at the M. E. Church. His last charge was at Boynton Oklahoma and he comes well recommended. His first service was Sunday morning and he impressed listeners with his ability. He will occupy the parsonage and will be joined in the spring by Mrs Wells.
In Jackson Hole area families from McCammon Idaho and Jackson W introduce Peter Gordon Jr and Mrs Medi as they visit a ranch amid reports elk suffer in a harsh winter. Elk herds, once common in the valley, retreat to hills and park lands as settlers take land and feed becomes scarce. Weak and dying elk block roadways, and crews battle to save injured animals amid growing scarcity and debris from winter losses.
Word was received in Kemmerer on Monday of the death of M. J. Blake at his mother's home in Hrevier Missouri. Relatives say illness had persisted for some time. His death follows shortly after the passing of his father about three weeks ago. Deep sympathy is extended to Mrs. Blake.
The Kemmerer delegation presented Senator Hoskins with a chest of silverware to honor his work securing a measure for Lincoln county's creation. He is a Kemmerer store manager and a former Illinois native who moved to Buffalo and then Uinta County. A Cheyenne Tribune report recounts an early tale of a tribe member igniting coal oil in Hoskins’s store cellar, then a clerk helping extinguish it.
In the Utah senate the clash led by Senator Hoskins of Uinta ended with the Lincoln county bill moving to final passage after a late-night deadlock. Senator Chapman of Uinta blocked suspension of rules until midnight, then relented as Hoskins maintained the fight. Hoskins bought cigars and candy for Capitol staff and invited colleagues to dinner at the Inter Ocean hotel.
Gov. Carey announced additional appointments confirmed by the senate Saturday night. Appointments span boards of telegraph, water divisions, sheep commissioner, examining engineers, agriculture, health, and university trustees with named appointees including S. King, W. Newbrough, G. Blacker, and D. Hudmur among others.
