Mondell urges improved rural mail service in Wyoming

Congressman Mondell testified before the Committee on Post Office and Post Roads calling attention to unfavorable attitudes at the Fourth Assistant Postmaster General's office toward improving rural mail. He noted only a few new lines since two years, total cost about 2500, while many routes were cut or reduced. He warned hundreds in Wyoming lack adequate facilities and urged liberal funding for rural service, stating Congress intends reasonable mail for all citizens. Similar issues affect mountain states beyond Wyoming, with many Democrats and progressives criticizing the department for failing to provide adequate service. The administration had promised reform but ran a near twelve million dollar deficit last year as rural routes were trimmed.

He notes a Dec 10 report lacked foundation and says the Forest case will soon go before the U S district court with his attendance. He explains his absence at Cokeville was to seek a hearing before Forest officials in Kemmerer, not before Lincoln County Wool Growers advisory board.
