Allied Drive Reaches Paris Threat, British Push German Lines
The Allied advance toward Berlin stretches over a vast front from Arras to the Oise and Vesle rivers. In five weeks the Germans have suffered heavy losses, with over 110,000 prisoners captured, and 400,000 casualties cited by observers. The push includes rapid gains near Noyon, Roye, Chaulnes, and Bapaume while German defenders withdraw to shorter lines along the Meuse and toward a possible defensive Loth. The coming phases hinge on whether the Germans establish a stronger frontier defense or retreat further to safeguard Paris.
