THE PRIMARY ELECTION.
The primary election was held on| Tuesday, June "th throughout the
state and a light vote is reported.
The latest report received at 2 o’clock
Thursday afternoon indicate the nom-
¦ ination of Robt. Vessey for governor,
[ with Burke and Thorson leading by
small margins for congressmen. Geo.
G. Johnson is probably nominated for
¦ ttate treasurer though by a small
I majority.
In the county vote many surprises
i were sprung. Burke and Martin car-
i ried the county by the following vote:
i Burke 784, Martin 850 Schrade? 707,
| Thorson 47. Vessey was high man in
Stanley county with a vote of 833,
j while Egan came next with 479 and
I Elrod 426. Frank Byrne for lieuten-
ant governor, Ve.-.sey’s running mate
carried the county with 830 to Pann-
ley 481. Samuel C. Polley for secre-
tary of state received 974 to Dousman
523. For attorney general Johnson
756, Titus E. Price 584. For state au-
ditor 11. B. Anderson came to rescue
of the stalwarts and carried the coun-
ty with a vote of 784 to John Bibel-
heimer 505. The remainder of the
state ticket went to the insurgents by
the following votes: State treasurer,
Ewert 807, Johnson 765, commissioner
school and public lands, Brinker 809,
Foster 663; Supt. public instructions,
Lawrence 935, Seymour 583; Railroad
com’er, Benedick 873, Smith 615.
ADDITIONAL LOCAL NEWS.
In the race for Judge of the Sixth
Judicial Circuit the confidence of the
voters was shown in Stanley county’s
candidate for that office by giving
John F. Hughes 1138 to Judge Bouch-
er’s 586.
Chas. L. Millett received the nom-
ination for representative from Stan-
ley county over Dr. Lavery by a ma-
jority of 26. Enoch McKay drew the
capital prize in the race for treasurer
by a majority over Clow of 16. In
the race for Sheriff C. E. Coyne re-
ceived the nomination with a vote of
699, Belford running second with a
vote of 411. Geo. Porch received 367
and L. Marrington was first, counting
from the bottom, with a vote of 248.
Frank L. Norman, our present county
assessor, won out again with 905 to
Hart 650.
WARRANT CALL.
In Kadoka precinct, No. 56, the
election was held in the school house
' with J. L. White, J. A. Jones and R.
G. Skrove as judges and Otto Sharon
and A. B. Helms as clerks. An ex-
ceptionally small vote was out, only
112 republican and 10 democrat bal-
lots being cast. Geo. Porch, Kado-
ka’s candidate for sheriff, received
the highest vote cast for any candid-
ate, getting 90 out of 109 ballots for
that office. C. L. Millett received 89
to Lavery’s 12, while Clow carried
the precinct by a vote of 64 to 36.

being held for the purpose of organiz-
ing a ball team. Here’s hopeing.
Who said it didn’t rain in Stanley
county? This week nearly an inch of
rain has fallen.
Wm. Lawrence, who this week sold
his farm four miles west of town to
W. Coverdale, of Vermillion, expects
to leave soon with his family for Mon-
tana to make his home.
A party of landseekers composed
of H. Bruning, J. Meyer and IL
Freese, allof Breda, lowa, were sel-
ecting some of Stanley County’s
choicest farms with the B. L. Mc-
Nally Land Co. this week.
The requests haye become so urgent
that the Kadoka Dramatic Company
are planning on repeating their play
“Tony, the Convict” sometime this
month. The date, most popular at
the present t’me is June 21st. This
play was put on about two months
ago and since then the requests have
been so numerous that the play will
be repeated. Watch for bills and def-
inite announcement as to the date
next week.

Special Township Meeting.
The citizens of the township of Ka-
doka, in the county of Stanley and
State of South Dakota, who are qual-
ified to vote at General Election, are
hereby notified that a Special Town-
ship Meeting will be hely at Kadoka
Opera in Raid township, on Wednes-
day, the 15th day of June next, at 2
o’clock in the afternoon, for the fol-
lowing purposes, viz: To levy a land
tax of 50 cents on eachf 100 assessed
valuation to be worked out by owner
or agent, or be paid in and worked
out by road overseers, or men hired
by him. The Board of Supervisors
and fourteen other freeholders of the
Township having filed in my office a
written statement that such Special
Township Meeting was necessarv to
the interests of the Township.
