Belvidere National Birthday Celebration Highlights

Townspeople traveled to Belvidere for a cool, festive celebration with Kadoka band music, speeches by Rev. Clough and J. G. Bartine, and sports including tug of war, horse and pony races, potato race, ball game, and foot races. Uproar over hotel bed charges briefly marred the event. second day offerings were more modest with few attendees.

Kadoka Grain Company to Build Elevator and Coal House

The Kadoka Grain Company begins construction of a new 18 000 bushel capacity grain elevator and 14 by 42 foot coal house near the depot. J D Hand arrives from Delmont to lead the project with Louis Determan, planning to move soon, as the town gains a local grain market.

Capitol construction makes steady progress toward early completion

A year after laying the cornerstone, exterior stonework is finished and the tower will rise. The steel framework will extend the structure forty feet above the stone work, with completion expected well before the contract end. Olson predicts finishing at least three months early. The tunnel to the power house is nearly done and ground filling will follow, leading to parking work next year from the power house to the west grounds. Professor Hanson returns to assess surface grading and finalize the general outlines for the grounds.

The Fort Pierre Hospital enters a new era with Drs Lavery and Walsh becoming proprietors for five years at a total cost of 7500 dollars. Mrs J N Douglall steps down as manager as Dr William Schroeder and wife assume current duties, with Mrs Schroeder noted for nursing leadership.

Milesville family linked to thefts and reform school

Sheriff Huston and States Attorney Johnson returned from Milesville with Mrs. John Redding and her five children after a spree of property thefts including watches guns and pens. Three oldest boys Carl Alex and Jess, ages 13 and under, were sent to the Plankinton reform school after hearings before Justice Hagarty and Judge Dinsmore.
