Parents face fines for noncompliance while no child under 14 may work after July 1 and those 14 to 16 face limits. Parochial schools will oversee their own students and notes claim an exemption for a young capitalist. Orphan scholarships are planned to aid widowed families.
Reported in Joliet as President Roosevelt’s visit drew mixed reactions. Citizens praised the brief appearance with many pleased by the reception and clergymen and editors joining in.
