County supervisors moved to address decay at the county farm including poor heating water supply and unsafe roofs. They debated repairs costing hundreds of dollars, with calls to install tile wells and closets, and to review pension practices for a paralyzed veteran in care.
St Louis November 26 A Mississippi valley deep waterways convention opened with Lyman Cooley arguing for a fourteen foot channel and noting dredging advances cut costs dramatically. Officials including Blair, Reed, Donaghey, Rainey and others urged action to fund and push the waterway, while critics warned against delays and the need to educate public opinion. The meeting touched on bridge rights, municipal governance, and potential gains from a larger riverfront commerce drive.

Geo Benedict and two associates Johnn Murphy and Walter Sukrau were arrested near Summit by Chicago Telephone Company and Sanitary District detectives. They face charges of wire theft with a search revealing powder pliers and several guns. Benedict, an ex-convict, is described as the gang leader responsible for years of Sanitary district and telephone wire thefts and bomb incidents in Chicago.
A fragmented Joliet police register describes Frank Cavanaugh, 45, a cigar maker, fleeing after a disturbance at T. H. Riley’s home. He was jailed, later connected to a crime involving a safety deposit box at Citizens National Bank, with $19.05, deeds, and papers missing amid bank key tampering and legal disputes over the disposition of the man’s assets.
Peter Startz of Romeo was arrested on a fugitive warrant for a $200 embezzlement theft from the Georgia Central Railroad in Macon. He denies the crime, claims a double in the south, and awaits requisition papers before transfer.
Frank Seely a Kendall county farmer for forty years died at his daughter’s home near Aurora. He had been ill a few days, was found lifeless after a glass of water was left by his daughter Ruth Perriss. He leaves a widow Mrs Buntey Ferriss Seely a son Thede Dora Seely of Yorkville and daughters Clara Ryall of Marseilles and Ruth Perriss of Aurora plus relations to Jessup and Seely families. Interment is at Bims Wood cemetery after a service at the family home.
Rev. James Madison Stifter of First Baptist Evanston lauds the modern newspaper during the union Thanksgiving service at Evanston First Presbyterian. He says public opinion is the real sovereign and papers influence society more than schools and churches. He would prefer Chicago’s two best papers serving God and Christianity over a thousand new churches.
