A major fire ripped through the Ed Juroe building in Joliet damaging Barrett Hardware and adjacent rooms. Joel Jones and Westphal escaped the flames from the basement to safety. both suffered burns. Fire crews fought the blaze for hours as stock and building were insured and protected.
Despite destruction of the Barrett block the Joliet National Bank reopened this morning in quarters fitted in the Hotel Minitee. At the regular opening time the doors to the Joliet National Bank were thrown open to the public.
James Nolte, a boarding house resident at 503 Elwood Street, fired a five chamber revolver at Mrs. Marie Di Giusti and others during a confrontation over his eviction. The woman was grazed, others escaped injury as Nolte fought boarders and was captured by villagers and police.
