About 250 Joliet area workers of the Bell system can purchase American Telephone and Telegraph stock at 110 per share with 2 per month payments. Each employee may buy up to one share per 300 in annual wages, and up to ten shares. Dividends fund the stock, with full payment projected by 1918, and if a worker leaves or dies the paid amount plus dividends is returned.
London reports a cabinet session on the American protest against British interference with shipping. Differences in opinion emerge on international law and whether U S protests are valid when cargoes to neutral ports are involved. Some ministers say the United States may protest about interference, but not over contraband foods bound for Germany and Austria.
Washington dispatch reports that the final cause of the U S protest over British seizure is Britain’s steady policy shifts. State department officials say English measures against American sea commerce favor British commercial interests and threaten American shippers with loss of colonies once under British control.

John Brance, a colored youth, was fined 15 dollars plus costs by Judge Lumley this morning on a disorderly conduct charge. He has a history of multiple prior arrests for various offenses.

Milton Johnson was arraigned before Justice McCulloch on a charge of assault and resisting an officer. The case was continued until Friday afternoon January 8, 1915, with Johnston pleading not guilty to threatening and assaulting Constable Herman of Lockport during service of a writ of replevin.

In a partition suit before Judge De Setm, Frank Davidson and siblings seek to force widow Ann Davidson to share rental income from the Comstock Street homestead. They claim the estate is owed about $4,000 from 19 years of occupancy, with $1,000 already allotted to the widow and one third of the remainder due to her. Attorneys Olin and Shutts represent Ann Davidson, the deceased Joseph Davidson’s third wife.
Sam Rob inson colored, held on burglary charges and linked to the murder of Miss Jennie Miller at Aurora, escaped from Warren county jail with three other prisoners. They pried bars with a gas pipe and sawed through the roof, then used blankets as ropes to reach the ground. Police in various Illinois cities were notified.
Twenty three salesmen of the Moore Bros Stove Works will gather at the Joliet plant for four days starting Monday morning. The annual event features a planned program and entertainment by the salesmen. Tuesday includes a banquet at Hobbs Cafe followed by a group outing to the Lincoln theatre to see Under Cover. Attendees travel from Boston Philadelphia Nebraska and the West.
In Freeport Illinois, Carl Schulte age 25, recently divorced, forced entry to his former wife’s home and shot her before killing himself. The woman is not expected to live. Schulte had inherited $20,000 and owed $1,000 by divorce terms. a conservator had been appointed due to his finances.

William A. Murphy announces petitions for a commission form of government will be filed in county court tomorrow for a special election on February 2. About 1100 to 1200 signatures gathered with some holdouts delaying filing. no strong opposition seen and organizers plan rapid campaign setup after court date is fixed.

Members of the Willow Avenue Presbyterian church Brotherhood gathered at O Klosse’s Irene Street home for a pig barbecue hosted by J G Allott, with Rev C F Bruhn present. The ban quet is planned for around January 14, and talks covered prohibition and a new church organ.
