Washington Aug 31 Gen Wetherspoon acting secretary of war refused Governor Stewart of Montana a call for troops after the dynamiting of the Anaconda Mining Company's employment office at Butte. He said troops would not be sent until every other effort by state authorities to restore order had been exhausted.
United Press report from St. Petersburg says Russian forces pierced the Austrian left near Samonce in northern Galicia and routed enemy units, suffering enormous losses.

Rev. D. L. Ferris of Christ Church Rochester will conduct a series of missions in Joliet as part of a Chicago diocese program planned for November.
