Platt McCloud, a farmer near Bird's Bridge thirty miles east of Channahon, was robbed at gunpoint of $60 by two youths about 25 years old. The robbers escaped through fields as Sheriff Stevenson and a posse hunted the area, with farmers joining the search. Fred McCloud witnessed events and a watch was partly recovered before the pair vanished.

A grounded underground transformer wire at Chicago street near the Barber building forced the Public Service company to close the Jackson street plant shortly after noon. Elevators and motors downtown and in outlying plants were shut down all afternoon awaiting repairs as crews replaced the burned transformer and underground cable.
