A Joliet mother leads police to the Stone City hotel on Jefferson Street where her daughter Frances Watkins, 17, says she suffered repeated assaults and coercion by proprietor Carl Sternstrom who faces disorderly house charges and additional counts. The girl, living with her mother at 118 Van Buren, had been employed as a chambermaid at four dollars weekly after a precarious start following a placement by her mother. Sternstrom, who bought the hotel June 7 for 1,000 dollars, was held for a 1:30 PM hearing as investigation continues into the alleged abuse and other men cited in the girl's testimony.
