Thomas Smith a 56 year old carpenter from Chicago was struck on tracks near Argo station by a south bound Alton passenger train while trying to avoid a freight. He died ten minutes after impact from a fractured skull. The train was delayed about thirty minutes and the remains were sent to Chicago. Smith lived at 5009 Ada street and left a wife and two children.
