Joliot Residents Escape Uninjured in Canadian Train Wreck

Joliet residents I J Blackhall and Dorothy Blackhall rode Grand Trunk Chicago to New York train wreck near Woodstock Ontario late Thursday. Initial reports claimed deaths and injuries, but later messages said the uncle and niece escaped unharmed though shaken. Seven others injured were able to continue their journeys.

Placed under bonds by the court of Justice of the Peace Achors two brothers from Rockdale, Joseph and Valen, were taken into custody today following a preliminary hearing held yesterday.

Pire brothers arraigned on armed assault charge

Tine and another Pire were arraigned for an assault with a deadly weapon against Frank Zapancich. Both were released on $500 bonds and scheduled for a hearing next Wednesday at 9 am. All residents of Rockdale, they were taken into custody this morning.

Stranger Passes Away Near Minooka

Michael Real was found unconscious near Minooka and died at St. Joseph's hospital without regaining consciousness. His body was taken to Wunderlich's undertaking rooms. No further details have emerged after diligent inquiry, and he will likely be buried in Potter's field.

On Labor Day September 7 1908 the post office opens 7:30 to 10:00 am. Money order and registry divisions closed all day. Denver creditors await Crolius settlement

Denver reports Crolius and Co stock and grain brokers face about 2000 dollars in liabilities after closing their office following Baltman and Co Cincinnati troubles. Attorney James A Harris says Crolius is en route from Cincinnati with funds to pay creditors, while Otis and Hough seized fixtures over a 675 mortgage. Crolius, Joliet mayor two years, moved to Denver four months ago.

State's Attorney files six counts against sixty-two saloon keepers for violating state Sunday closing laws. The actions target July 24 August 2 August 9 August 16 August 23. Water Way Boomers to Be Here Sept 14 in Joliet

Senator Richard J Barr received a letter from Cicero J Lindley chairing the Illinois Deep Water Way Association. A Joliet meeting is set for Sept 14 at 7 30 p m at the Auditorium with attendees from Pontiac and Will County urged to attend. The movement features cross party support and lists of 800 900 prominent locals to be invited as the campaign to back the Deep Water Way grows.

Escaped Convicts Sighted Near Blue Island

Reports from the penitentiary say James Kaiser and Clarence Wise escaped Thursday afternoon and were seen near Blue Island. Guards rushed to the scene but failed to catch them as search efforts extended into neighboring districts. A separate Chicago Inter-Ocean story alleges the men blew a safe at a general store in Elgin, with twenty five dollars taken.
