Everett V Jenks Fatal Duck Hunt Accident

Everett V Jenks died from a shotgun wound during a dawn duck hunt on the Saginaw river. His friend Walter Teall found the body in Jenks’s boat four hours after they started and the cause is listed as an accidental discharge. Jenks’s twin brother Charles drowned in the same river years earlier. The Jenks family prepared to transport the body from Bay City to Chicago.

Convicts Escape Manhunt Ends With Indian Boat Theft

Chicago detectives pursue Burnett a Pottawattamie Indian who stole the motor boat The Alice. He escaped on the canal toward Lockport where a gunfight occurred before he surrendered and was brought back to Chicago. Burnett planned to sell the boat in St Louis.

Fugitives Surrounded Near Marley As Statewide Hunt Goes On

James Kaiser and Clarence Wise escapees from the penitentiary are surrounded in a corn field four miles southwest of a village with reports they are heavily armed. Police in Chicago and across the state circulate descriptions and warn guards and keepers to pursue the convicts, who fled in prison uniforms after a noon escape.

Inter-State Telephone stockholders oust Evans Conklin faction

At Jersey City August 31 stockholders of the Inter-State Telephone & Telegraph Co. elected a board largely opposed to the Evans Conklin administration. John O. Barrett Joliet and others named for three years, with two-year vacancies filled by Joliet and nearby officials. Cheadle Joliet slated to succeed Conklin as manager, with Cheadle to head a foreign trip to dispose of bonds.
