The Will County Fair opens with heavy entries swamping Howard Messenger in charge of horses and filling every stall. Officials report the stock show as the largest yet and forecast keen competition. Races are a major draw with a fast track praised by drivers as Joliet Day approaches.

The drainage trustees refuse to widen bridges on the Chicago River and drainage canal to 200 feet, citing duty to protect public funds and adhere to engineering guidance. They insist all new bridges and canal improvements will be 140 feet wide despite a push from Illinois Manufacturers' Association for broader spans.
Joseph Curta, an employee at Duckers Corner, was arrested southeast of the city for shooting song birds. He pleaded ignorance of the law and was fined heavily for the wanton killing, mostly robins and meadowlarks. Hunters seek licenses at City Clerk Berscheld's office.

George W. Young, former Armour & Co. driver at Joliet local branch, vanished after delivering a meat load. He left his horse and wagon behind and is believed to have fled with employer funds. Descriptions sent to nearby cities. he is a Wilmington native who lived with Charles Allott in Pleasant Street.
