Speakers Attorney H. E. Wood and State's Attorney William D. Heise addressed Ridgewood Republican club members last evening. They defended McKinley era prosperity and disputed Stevenson era charges, arguing the campaign educates voters and outlining past Democratic missteps since the Civil War.
William J. Calhoun of Chicago, noted orator and lawyer, will address a Republican mass meeting at Joliet theatre Saturday night. He is praised for Cuban and Venezuelan investigations under McKinley and Roosevelt and his speech is billed as well worth hearing. A Polish American Republican rally follows at Turner hall Sunday at 3 PM with strong speakers promised.
Frank Rhobach 22 of Braidwood and Anna Kemetoksky 17 of Braceville were refused a license to wed this afternoon due to the girl’s youth. The bride elect wore white bridal attire and said she would be 18 on Monday. The clerk, though convinced she may be truthful, had to follow the law and refused.
The Ex C club of Knights of Columbus entertained at their first dance of the season in the Conservatory of Music. Fifty couples danced late to Sweet's orchestra with a barn dance the main feature. The club plans seventy five couples and fortnightly events.
P. V. Scully of Collins Street paid $44.70 in the County court for the People versus Arthur B. Scully an assault case against Lawrence Nolan. The appeal from Justice Hawk's court followed Scully's police sergeant conviction and resignation from the force about two months earlier.
Telegraph Special reports John Zortman former Joliet penitentiary prisoner who violated parole was captured on Chicago streets today after an exciting chase. He will be returned to the penitentiary.

The jury returned a verdict for the Michels Co. against Thomas H. Young and others for 528.46 dollars. Plaintiff awarded the sum in the case.

Police hearing reveals Officer John Moore claims ignorance of disorderly happenings at his home until Chief McMasters informed him. He says he and his son live upstairs, handle their own cooking, and he will testify tomorrow night. Moore also says he will present witnesses to support his defense.
Mrs. Sarah Armstrong files suit in Sterling Illinois claiming her divorce was illegal and that her former husband’s will disposing of 350000 should be broken. The couple divorced years ago and she seeks access to the inheritance based on the alleged invalid divorce and subsequent marriage.
Washington will host a major assembly as National Rivers and Harbors Congress is planned for the national capital in the early part of coming December. The event gathers leaders and officials to discuss waterways projects and harbor improvements.
