Rack elevation began this morning for the Great Era of Prosperity 5 IW store in Joliet. Construction crews started the project as authorities announced an imminent opening.
Mayor Cronin wielded the shovel as Col. Fred Bennitt, author of Joliet’s first track elevation ordinance, led a ceremony marking the start of a Michigan Central and Rock Island project. James Newkirk’s Kettle Stone Co. crew began four-track elevation work from Union Street, promising prosperity as trains head east through Joliet.
H Belanco the Chicago aeronaut was gravely hurt when his parachute failed during a first ascension at Dellwood Park. He fell about 500 feet onto rocks by the canal but was saved by a late opening parachute. He was treated by a Lockport physician and taken to his Chicago home. another performer filled in for the following day.
The island will reuse the same elevated Mississippi avenue leading to the river as part of its project. The plan maintains existing infrastructure and routes development toward waterfront access.
Edward Carroll eleven 127 Edwards Street dies during fishing trip near Wilmington. Heart failure suspected. coroner’s jury finds settlement. Survived by wife and twelve children, three sisters. Funeral Tuesday at 2 from home. interment Mt Olivet. Zipf testified Carroll was in good health Saturday night.
A certificate of good moral character was granted to Dorrance Dibell Snapp by Judge Dibell with witnesses William A. Murphy and Charles D. Dibell. Snapp, son of Congressman and Mrs. H. M. Snapp, is finishing Northwestern Law School studies in Chicago and will take the state bar examinations at Mt. Vernon Ill next month.
Charles Hewitt, from whom Dollie Hewitt recently obtained a divorce, has failed to pay alimony of seven dollars fifty cents a month as fixed by Judge Marshall. He has been cited to appear in court tomorrow morning to show cause why he should not be adjudged in contempt.
Judge Cowing appoints Charles D. Dibell as appraiser for the Thomas Baskerville estate to determine inheritance tax liability in County Courts today.
Director Anton Schager led St Marys choir and fifteen singers joining a chorus of nearly 1000 voices at the Foresters foundation silver jubilee in the Chicago Coliseum Sunday afternoon. A magician's wife may feel proud of his trickery.
James Fanning of the city engineer's force sustained a slight injury to his left foot Saturday when the wheel of an express wagon came near him. He will be out of work for several days.
The Ottawa Street Methodist Episcopal church held a memorial service with Epworth Guards in khaki and G A R members, honoring Civil War sacrifices and linking them to American liberty. The sermon cited Egypt’s exodus and urged unity among America’s diverse people to preserve republican institutions and global influence.
Victor Woodson, a Black man, was killed early yesterday when struck by a Chicago and Alton passenger train. Conductor J W Frank found the mangled body shortly before 4 am as it lay near the tracks. No witnesses. Woodson had been traveling toward his home on Columbia Street when the 12 40 am arrival train passed through.
Henry Feil of East Cass street petitions the circuit court for a change of venue alleging prejudice by Judges Dibell and Marshall. He and two affidavits claim a fair trial cannot be had before them. If granted the case would move to another county. trial was due this term.
Benjamin Bothwick, marshal, has completed plans for Memorial Day exercises. The parade forms 1 p.m. on Jefferson Street at the Masonic Temple, moves west to the river for dead sailors ceremonies, then proceeds by cars to the cemetery for final rites. Attending groups include the Dellwood Park Band, Boys' Brigade, Gen. Joe Wheeler Post No. 38, U S Bartleson Post No. 6G A R, Womens Relief Corps, Civic Societies and children.
Frank Borden of New Lenox Township shot Paul Nimoth, a non English speaking man, during Nimoth’s prowling about Borden’s farm between 8 and 4 yesterday morning. Nimoth is hospitalized in critical condition with two wounds, while Borden says he acted to defend his property. Nimoth’s intoxication and mental state are noted.
Bids for Morgan street brick paving and Baker avenue sewer and water main were received and sent to the City Engineer for canvass. A Wednesday morning adjourned meeting is expected to approve contracts.
